The Huron Coun- try Playhouse's 45th Season of music and laughter kicks off with Sister Act, one of the biggest blockbusters from Broadway, June 8th to June 25th. Based on the iconic film starring Whoopi Goldberg, Sister Act features an original score by Alan Menken and Glenn Slater (The Little Mer- maid), with a vast inspira- tion of musical styles from Motown to soul and funk, to great big disco anthems. This hilarious musical comedy will have audiences on their feet and cheering on the chorus of sensational sisters! "We are extremely excited to bring this divine musical comedy to Grand Bend audi- ences," says Alex Mustakas, Artistic Director of Drayton Entertainment. "Its global success is testament to the level of entertainment that you can expect from this show. Sister Act has some- thing for everyone - an out- rageously funny story, infec- tious music, and a group of sisters you can't help but root for." The story unfolds as wan- nabe diva Deloris Van Cartier witnesses a brutal crime and is forced to hide out in a convent. Finding herself at odds with the rigid lifestyle enforced by the stern Mother Superior, Delo- ris uses her remarkable musical talent and unique disco moves to help her fel- low sisters find their inner voices - while rediscovering her own along the way. Veteran of musical and dramatic threatre, Susan Gil- mour plays the unyielding Mother Superior. "I am working with an incredible cast," says Gil- mour who played Marilla Cuthbert in last year's Anne of Green Gables. Although there were simi- larities in the two parts, Gil- mour said the characters lived in different worlds. Mother Superior is protected by the walls of the church, protected against the outside world. "That is until Deloris comes to town." (Aurianna Angelique makes her Dray- ton Entertainment debut in the role of the ebullient Deloris Van Cartier). And that, says Gilmour rocks, the church lady's life. She says the lesson theatre goers will take with them centres around the old adage that you can't judge a book by its cover. "Friendships can happen in the most unu- sual of circumstances. Meet- ing in the middle is a real les- son here." The production is directed by Max Reimer, a former THIS IS OUR GIGANTIC, SPECTACULAR, INCREDIBLE, COLOSSAL SALE WITH THE MOST UNBELIEVABLE LOW PRICES DURING OUR INVENTORY LIQUIDATION EVENT SIMPLY CALLED: LEARN THIS IS YOUR CHANCE TO REAP HUGE SAVINGS ON ALL • HDTV'S / 4K ULTRA HDTV'S • OLEDTV's • STEREO / SURROUND SYSTEMS • PORTABLE / WIRELESS AUDIO • CABLES AND ACCESSORIES "THE CLEARANCE" WILL ONLY BE IN EFFECT WHILE STOCK LASTS... "I am grateful to Drayton and this amazing talent I am so fortunate to work with," she says. Sister Act is a feelgood musical comedy that speaks to the bond of unexpected friendship.
