Whew! I think the dande-
lion season is over for this
year and we can concentrate
on the veggies in the garden.
Don't forget that you can
take Dad out to eat on
Father's Day right here in
Londesborough. The
Londesborough Lions Club
will be serving up their "Olde
Tyme Country Breakfast"
that morning between 9 and
11 a.m. The breakfast is $8.00
for adults and $3.00 for chil-
dren under 12.
The Londesborough UCW
will hold their June meeting
on Monday, the June 20.
I was in attendance at a
service of remembrance in
Victoria Park in London on
Sunday morning. The 1st
Hussars of London hold this
service every year on the
Sunday closest to June 6 to
honour their comrades who
gave the ultimate sacrifice in
wars since their inception in
1856. The date was chosen to
also remember those sol-
diers who were in the early
waves on Juno Beach in Nor-
mandy in 1944. One of my
uncles was killed that day
and my sister and I recently
learned of this service. It was
a tasteful commemoration.
Consequently I missed the
Sunday worship service for
Londesborough United that
day. However Erica Baxter, a
member of the church out-
reach committee sent along
the following report.
Londesborough United
Church's first annual "Hot
Dawgs at the Diamond" was
a great success. After much
needed rain fell overnight,
things cleared up for the out-
door service, BBQ and base-
ball game.
Around 50 people attended
the casual outdoor service
which was led by Rev. Terry
Fletcher. Barb Bosman led
everyone in the singing of
much loved camp songs with
Terry Fletcher and Ken Scott
accompanying on guitars. The
sun even came out for the
singing of "This Little Light of
Mine': The words had been
changed to "shine all over
Londesborough, I'm going to
let it shine!"
Following the service the
grills were fired up and 65
people enjoyed BBQ. After the
last of the fudgsicles and
watermelon were eaten, an
exciting ball game began.
Unfortunately the game was
called on account of the thun-
derstorm that rolled in. But all
in all it was a great initial out-
door gathering. Thanks to all
who came out to make it a
success.
