Not your average vehicle Varna News

Shaun Gregory

Imagine a vehicle with the
capabilities to drive both ways.
There would never be a point in
time when one would have to
back up. Bill Brown's car
requires no imagination
because that's what's parked in
his driveway.
That means each end of the
car has a steering wheel, a brake
pedal and a gas pedal.
"When I started, it was two
little four -door cars, so I sawed
them in half and welded them
back together again," stated
Brown during the annual car
show at the Legion in Seaforth
on May 15.
It was roughly 35 years ago
when the Egmondville native
decided to turn a four -door
1978 Dodge Omni and a four -
door 1979 Dodge Horizon
into a two -door fully function-
ing car that's able to drive
frontwards just as well as it
does backwards.
"When I was a kid I saw one
in a popular mechanic book.

Bill Brown stands in front of the car he made 35 years ago. It is
capable of driving from both ends of the vehicle.
They took two Ford Model T's.
But it wouldn't backup and do
what this does. It just looked like
it was going both ways. But this
thing will go both ways," said
Brown.
Since technically there is no
front and back because both
parts of the car are proficient
enough to drive, Brown prefers
to drive the end with the auto-
matic transmission rather than
manual. When he decides to
take a drive around town, he
puts the standard engine in
neutral and locks the steering
wheel straight.
The Frankenstein -like car
has made an appearance in car
shows in Stratford and Brussels
as well as a couple of other
places in the region. One of the
car's best features is its ability to
spin around on the pavement
at top speeds.
"It's great at doing donuts,"
Brown said, laughing.
