St. Anne's was full of energy
on May 28 despite soaring
temperatures due to the
excitement surrounding their
five kilometer colour rim.
The event was put on by
the school's Me to We club
which is with Free the Chil-
dren. This popular club at
the school has around 120
students registered in it even
though it's only been around
four or five years. 25 of those
students went on a mission
trip in December to the
Dominican Republic.
All the funds raised by the
event will go to building an
elementary school in Kenya.
They have done several other
fundraisers for this cause
including a semi -formal and
a swimathon, but this is their
largest fundraiser.
Their goal was $10,000,
and although they have not
added up all the funds yet,
they are confident that they
are close to or have exceeded
that number. For this event,
funds were raised through
the cost to register and
through number of corpo-
rate sponsors.
Around 90 people were
registered for the run as well
as around 40 more people
running and helping organ-
ize the event.
"The different colours rep-
resent the five pillars of sus-
tainability; said student
organizer Emma Wick. "They
are education, clean water,
agriculture, alternative
income and healthcare. So
each kilometer and each col-
our represents a different
pillar.'
The colourful powder,
which is dyed cornstarch, was
thrown on the runners as they
passed each kilometer. It was
also throw on them when they
finished, and everyone threw
colours in the air at the "col-
our party" following the event.
Every runner was sufficiently
covered with colour by the
end of the event.
