Clinton News Record, 2016-07-27, Page 1414 News Record • Wednesday, July 27, 2016 LCBO United Way campaign starts across Perth and Huron Counties On July 21, the LCBO began a two-week in-store fundraising campaign for United Way Perth -Huron with 12 stores across the two counties participating. Thanks to the generous donations from customers and the commitment of LCBO employees, the organ- ization donated $58,508.00 to the 2015 campaign last year. "Our in-store campaigns and customer donations help the LCBO to do its part to reach out and help those in need. The Giving Back in our Community campaign continues to surpass fund- raising goals. The unique aspect of United Way is that all the donations stay local. We are all part of commu- nities; that's why we are proud to support United Way in its endeavour to make positive change in Huron and Perth," said Rodger Donald, Manager of the Goderich LCBO. "In 2016 in Ontario, there are people that struggle and experience over- whelming challenges. We see it in our communities. Social services should be readily available to every- one; that's why the LCBO Corporation and the LCBO staff support United Way, to make sure our neighbours and friends who experience devastation or barriers to success can get help when they need it most. Please consider giving generously when asked at the till to ignite change in our communities." Andrew Williams, the UWPH 2016 and 2017 Campaign Chair expressed thanks saying, "The support from the LCBO and its patrons is incredible. [...] They know that by supporting United Way, people in our com- munity are able to get the help they need when they need it." Huron County Food Bank Distribution Centre, a supported partner of United Way Perth -Huron, shares how donations help: A family was struggling to make ends meet, when the mother in the family became ill with cancer. A short time after this diag- nosis, the husband lost his job and so was able to be with his wife during her cancer treatments but was also out of work so there was no paycheck. Huron County Food Bank was able to help by providing fresh produce, milk, eggs and meat to this family along with other healthy food choices for a few weeks until the husband found another job. They are now getting back on their feet and the thank you note says how grateful they are for the fresh pro- duce and foods when they were in a very difficult spot. LCBO across Ontario donated more than $10.9 million through in-store fun- draising, of which $3.8 mil- lion was donated to local United Way Centraide branches across Ontario in 2015. The LCBO is the largest single United Way contribu- tor from the Ontario Public Service. "Sometimes asking for donations is difficult, but here at LCBO we run in- store Ask -at -the -Till cam- paigns because we know that there are people in our communities that need help. United Way Perth - Huron supports local social service agencies to meet their mandate's in creating positive change," Donald summed up. A simple donation at the till over the next two weeks will enable United Way Perth -Huron to help close to 50 supported partners across Perth and Huron Counties.
