forest - Lawson's Bush. More
than 50 years later, the eight
kilometre drive from Sea -
forth has a much more con-
trasting turn of physical phe-
nomenon; the police once
again have been called to the
iconic location. Thankfully
this occurrence had nothing
to do with any murder or
foul -play, however laws had
been broken.
At the railroad crossing on
July 18 on Front Road, a train
and a green John Deere pull-
ing three trailers collided.
Along with the Huron Expos-
itor, Bob Lawson, who lives
down the road and owns the
farmland fairly close to the
accident, were coinciden-
tally among the first on the
scene.
He hopped out of his blue
minivan to make sure
nobody was injured, which
fortunately was the case, and
he told the Huron Exposi-
tor at the crash that he was
happy everyone was okay.
According to Huron
County OPP media relations
officer, Jamie Stanley, the
train was travelling west-
bound at a speed of about 40
km/h when it hit the passen-
ger side of the tractor. The
force caused the tractor
headed north to be pushed
across the street a short dis-
tance. He also noted nobody
was hurt in the crash that
could easily have been fatal.
In light of the circumstances,
the two modes of transporta-
tion did not take much
damage.
The man driving the tractor
is charged under the Highway
Traffic Act Section 163, where
it states, "When the driver of a
vehicle is approaching a rail-
way crossing at a time when a
clearly visible electrical or
mechanical signal device or a
flagman is giving warning of
the approach of a railway
train, he or she shall stop the
vehicle not less than 5 metres
from the nearest rail of the
railway and shall not proceed
until he or she can do so
safely."
Before the tracks, there are
three signs posted on both
sides that states in order -
restricted visibility (with
train track image), be pre-
pared to stop and stop
before crossing.
