When the doctors break the
news that a loved one has a
narrow margin to live, Bonnie
Beuerman wishes it could be a
more of a private conversation
instead of in front of the public
in a relatively bare room, akin
to when the Seaforth native
was informed about her son
and husband's serious health
statuses.
Upon hearing the sad infor-
mation from medical person-
nel at the University Hospital
in London Ont., Beuerman
said the occurrence was not
just broadcasted to strangers,
but also the "shuffling" around
from room -to -room made the
already tough experience that
much more painful.
"We never knew from one
day to the next, what room we
would be in," she said in a
recent interview. "Sometimes
we would be in a big waiting
room with other people in
there."
"What we were going
through, that was the last thing
we wanted to worry about"
Her husband died July 12,
2013 of a massive heart
attack, and her son died July
22, 2015 from a similar heart
complication.
"My son had three months
to live without a heart trans-
plant. A heart came available,
and so he took it, and he never
woke up,' stated Beuerman
who also added that he lived
only ten days after the
surgery.
Knowing how much of a toll
on the family the constant
travels back and forth to Lon-
don and Seaforth are in con-
junction with the uncomforta-
ble feeling Beuerman and her
family felt being in an unfur-
nished space, she has decided
to launch a fundraiser BBQ in
commemoration to her two
family members who passed
away two years apart.
Last year the event was not
public but more of a family
affair, but this time around,
(Postmedia file photo)
Beuerman has made 300 tick-
ets available; most of them
have already been sold. After
the event is all said and done,
she will present the funds to
the University Hospital with
the request that it be put
towards building special
rooms where families can pri-
vately be given sensitive and
confidential information
regarding their loved ones.
"If they cannot do that, the
money will go to the Critical
Cardiac Care Unit, where my
son and husband were," Beu-
erman said.
Scott Saunders Rolling'
Roaster will be catering the
food for the BBQ; the event
will take place in Blyth on
August 13.
