Clinton teenager to train for two weeks with Cirque du Soleil Justine Alkema Clinton News Record Local acro dancer Jayme Verhoef is headed to Montreal for two weeks in July to train with the Cirque du Soleil. Although Verhoef is currently only 14, her ultimate goal for the future would be to join the troupe full time. The circus offers a two week intensive summer camp program which Verhoef will be attending. It is for ages 9-12 or 13-17. The camp allows participants to experience professional training in cir- cus arts and gain experience if they are planning to go into circus arts. Verhoef, who lives in Clinton, has been dancing competitively for five years. Recently, she has been dancing in Blyth under Jamie Styles. She is hop- ing to audition for the competitive team at Danceology in Lucknow this coming year. Verhoef heard about the camp in Montreal from a poster she saw when she was taking a tumbling class in Port Elgin. She looked up more information online and decided to apply which included submitting several photos and an audition video to vie for a spot. Some specific areas of interest Ver- hoef signed up for are tumbling and areal hoops. They'll practice hard dur- ing the days and do some small trips on the weekends such as to the beach. At the end of the week, they will put on a performance for the parents and who- ever else wants to come. Eventually, Verhoef wants to join the Cirque du Soleil. They offer a high school program, and someday she wants to do that. After that she wants to attend their college program, and when she graduates from that, she can audition.
