Clinton News Record, 2016-01-20, Page 13Radars topple Centenaires The Clinton Radars defeated the Seaforth Centenaires on Minor Hockey night by the tune of 7-3 in front of a good-sized crowd. Luke Vick, in playing in his 220th Senior Hockey game, collected his 400th career point as he collected 4 points on 1 goal and 3 assists. Line mate Ryan Murphy chipped inwith 2 goals and 2 assists. Vick now holds the all-time record for the Radars as he reached the mile- stone 400th point at 7:36 of the third period, when he fed Ryan Murphy a breakaway pass. Clinton grabbed a first Joey's Corner Joe Livermore period 2-O lead as Ryan Mur- phy scored at 10:16 on a nice setup from Vick and Tyler Bry- son. Deryk Whitehead made it 2-0 at 16:42 as he beat the Sea - forth goalie from close in with Taylor Gossett and Mike Jar- muth assisting on the play. Seaforth cut the Radars lead in the second on a powerplay goal by Chris Maton at 2:26. While playing shorthanded Luke Vick restored the Radars 2 -goal lead when he completed a 2 -on -1 rush on abeautiful wrist shot from the slot area at 11:59. Hardworking Brendan Dale and Mike Jarmuth helped setup the play. At 16:08 Sea- forth's Kyle Wallcer cut into Clinton's lead on a screen shot from the left circle. In the third, Clinton came out flying as they scored 4 goals in the span of 8 minutes to open up a 7-2 advantage. Con- secutive goals by Ryan Murphy, 2 by Kyle Provily and Josh Cor- nelieus turned the trick Sea - forth closed out the scoring in the third period as Chris Maton scored his second goal of the game to make the final score 7-3. The referee whistled the Radars for 12 minutes in penal- ties while Seaforth took only 6 minutes. The Radars outshot Seaforth 47 to 32 in the contest The Radars next home game is Friday, January29 when they host Petrolia at 8:30 p.m. Radars sweep season series over Thunder. The Clinton Radars trav- elled to Tillsonburg last Sun- day evening January 10. The Radars skated to a convincing 5-3 win to sweep the season series of 4 games. It was only last year that the Thunder Wednesday, January 20, 2016 • News Record 13 knocked the Radars out of the playoffs in the first round. This year the Radars are hop- ing the wheels will turn around. With the win, the Radars have now won 18 and lost only 2 games. Ryan Murphy gave the Radars a 3-0 lead at 12:28 as he snapped in a shot from close in with assists from Kurtis Bartliff and Luke Vick At 15:18 Tyler Bryson, on the rush with Doig, was able to dent the twine on a beautiful passing play. In the third period, the Radars seemed to fall asleep and took a lot of unnecessary penalties, giving the Thunder many easy scoring chances. They took advantage of the manypowerplays and scored 3 goals with Nathan Peacock, Shane Balcomb and Adam Vendepoele beating Clinton netminder Marc Nother After closing the gap to 4-3, Tyler Doig scoed at 12:21 to close out the final score of 5-3. In the contest Radars goalie Marc Nother made 31 saves while former Clinton goalie, Tommy Lee, made 35 saves in the Tillsonburg net It was a penalty -filled game as Clinton was whistled for 45 minutes and the Thunder for 49 minutes.
