She remains in Victoria Hospi- tal in London while the doctors assess her condition and decide how best to treat her. She has been in hospital for about three weeks and would surely appreciate a card to boost her spirits. This is a new year and I thought I would start some- thing new for this space, the background behind some familiar songs. To cel- ebrate a new year and a new start, I have chosen the familiar song of New Year's Eve, Auld Lang Syne, writ- ten by one of Scotland's greatest poets. In 1788, Robert Burns penned new lyrics for a tra- ditional folk song. In this song, Burns wonders if old friends and old times should be remembered or should one concentrate on the future. Burns decided as we would, that the past and future are both impor- tant. The Scottish tradition is to join hands to sing 'Auld Lang Syne". That way the song is a symbol of inclusion. So through 2016 let's all reach out in our lives to include all races, back- grounds and beliefs. The Londesborough UCW will begin a new year on January 18. The meet- ing will begin with refresh- ments at 7 p.m. Business/ program will begin at 7:30. New President Helen Lobb will preside. Volunteers have poked in dark corners of storage areas at the church and have identified items the church no longer needs. Perhaps they have found something you might like or could use. Check in the church basement or con- tact one of the trustees.
