Carolyn Miller and her family have been coming to the Auburn &

Dixon Schoemaker (left) came to the Auburn & District Lions Club
Breakfast with Dick Schoemaker, but was soon joined by his best
friend from school, Bruce Pentland. They both agreed it was a
good breakfast and a good way to spend a day off school.

Experience the
Magic of Art & Music
Alzheimer Society's Auction Gala
Special to the Clinton News
Record
Can you help but smile
when that special song
comes on the radio? Maybe
it's the one you danced to at
your wedding? Or that song
that reminds you of that
magical day you'll always
remember... or the day you
hope you'll always remem-
ber. That's the thing about
music - it's magical how we
react to its effects on us, and
those effects remain the
same for people with
dementia. Although the
memory associated with the
song may have faded, the
emotion often remains and
it is remarkable to see the
song re -awakening a feeling
seemingly lost when it re-
surfaces despite the progres-
sion of dementia.
Join the Alzheimer Society
of Huron County to celebrate
the progressive effects that the
program iPods for Memories
has for people locally living
with dementia at the Magic of
Art & Music Gala Auction on
Friday, February 5 at the Cen-
tral Huron Community Com-
plex in Clinton. The evening is
complete with hors d'oeuvres,
live music, and a delicious
dinner. The auction will fea-
ture a variety items including
the artistic collection of Puck
Merkies, local artist from
Grand Bend, so don't miss
your opportunity to take
home an original piece.
"We are very excited to
highlight the successful iPods
for Memories & Minds in
Motion programs at the event.
It's remarkable to see the
changes music and physical
activity make in the lives of
people with dementia. This
opportunity to show off these
life altering programs for peo-
ple with dementia to our sup-
porters of the cause creates an
opportunity for people to see
the difference they're making
first hand," says Brittany Wil-
liams, Events Coordinator at
the Alzheimer Society of
Huron County, adding "and
it's a difference we're really
proud of. The support we
receive at the Society through
events like the Auction Gala
allow us to offer innovative
programs like iPods for Mem-
ories and Minds in Motion.
We are so thankful for the sup-
port this event receives from
the community."
The proceeds from the
Magic of Art & Music Auction
Gala will help to grow the
iPods for Memories program.
The date conveniently falls
very close to Valentine's Day,
if you haven't made any plans
for that special someone yet -
consider a night on the town
where she can wear her best
dress out. Tickets are $50 and
can be purchased online
www.alzheimerca/huron-
county or by phoning the Alz-
heimer Society office (519)
482-1482.
The Society is gratefully
accepting donations for auc-
tion items, if you would like to
make a donation to the auc-
tion, be it an item or financial
contribution, please contact
the office.
