Radars begin 2016 on a winning note
0 n Saturday night,
January 2, the
Clinton Radars continued
their winning ways by
defeating the Tavistock

Even though they were
missing the top 3 scorers in
the league (Doig, Murphy,
Vick) the Radars still mus-
tered up a good offensive
attack led by Stefan Sali-
turo who recorded his first
hat trick of the season.
Deryk Whitehead chipped
in with 2 goals and 1 assist
while line mate Kurtis
]
Joey's Corner
Joe Livermore
Bartliff set up 3 helpers.
Others contributing to the
outburst were Mitch Van-
dergunst and Andrew Van -
Vliet with 1 goal each.
Tavistock opened the
scoring at the 3:46 mark of
the first stanza as Brendan
Woods scored on Radar
goalie Marc Nother from a
wild scramble in front of
the net. Tavistock's Zach
Lorentz made it 2-0 at 7:47
when his slapshot found
the upper right hand cor-
ner from the top of the
right hand circle. Before
the period ended Radars
first-year player, Mitch
Vadergunst, made it 2-1 on
a misplay in front of the net
by a Royal defender.
In the second period the
Radars scored 3
unanswered goals to take a
4-2 lead into the second
intermission. At 12:01 Ste-
fan Salituro tied the game
on a tap in at the crease on
a setup from Brendan Dale.
At 18:02 Deryk Whitehead
gave Clinton a 3-2 lead on
a backhand from the left
side of the crease. Kurtis
Bartliff and Jordan
McClure had chances
before Whitehead man-
aged to backhand it in.
Before the period had
ended, Andrew VanVliet
gave Clinton a 4-2 lead at
19:16 on a setup by Kyle
Provily and Shayne
McClure.
The Radars came out fly-
ing in the third period as
they took total control of
the contest. Stefan Solituro
completed his hat trick by
scoring 2 goals, one at 7:10
and the other at 9:17. In
between Solituro's 2 goals
Deryk Whitehead, on a
clear cut breakaway from
centre ice, drilled a puck by
the Royals' goalie. Tavis-
tock scored a late goal at
17:01 to make the final
score 7-3.
Marc Nother played
another strong game in
goal as he turned away 36
shots, while the Radars
fired 33 shots at the
opposing goalie.
The Radars received 10
minutes in penalties
while the Royals were
whistled for 6 minutes.
The Radars play in Mil-
verton this Saturday
night, January 9. Their
next home is on Friday,
January 15 a 8:30 p.m.

there.
