Old Deckhands
celebrating 37 years
Special to Clinton News Record
Each year certain dates just seem to
find their way onto the community calen-
dar and the Deckhands annual old timer
tournament weekend complete with the
best old timer dance in southwestern
Ontario is no exception. This February 19
- 21 weekend will mark the 37th time
teams from throughout Ontario and
south of the border descend upon Cana-
da's Prettiest Town to enjoy competition,
entertainment and all of the good times
that this tournament weekend has to
offer.
Whether a hockey fan or not, you will
not want to miss the always popular Sat-
urday night old timer dance as Deckhand
captain Bill Patterson with Moe'n the
Lawn return to the stage to rock Memo-
rial Auditorium. Admission to the com-
munity old timer dance is $10 at the door
and there are no advance ticket sales to
this age of majority event.
The competition will get under way
on the Friday night and will last
throughout the entire weekend with
players participating from as far away
as North Carolina, Nebraska, Pennsyl-
vania and Southwestern Ontario
vying for the opportunity to capture
Tiger Dunlop, Maitland, John Phillips
Memorial or Huron division
supremacy.
Returning with their large entou-
rage of supporters are the local
Bushwackers who will attempt to
improve upon their impressive 2015
showing as Huron division finalists.
Also returning are long time Deck -
hand from Corunna and London who
have been making the annual trip for
almost 30 years only to be slightly
outdone by the Port Stanley Cardiacs
who will be lacing up their blades
here for an amazing 37th year!
Many of the proceeds from this
annual event get directly infused back
into the community as the Old Deck -
hands Hockey Club continue to throw
its support behind programs like
youth sport associations, Healthy
Hearts Campaign and the Children's
Booster Club.
