Jack Hodgert Shelagh Cleary BA, FCIP Chair President & CEO The Magic of Art & Music Auction Gala Valerie Gillies Clinton News Record The Alzheimer Society of Huron County (ASHC) held their Magic of Art & Music Auction Gala at the Central Huron Community Complex in Clinton on February 5. This is the first time this event has been held in February, rather than in May. Brittany Williams, Events Coordina- tor for ASHC, reported that the evening went really well. "There are 90 people here. A few didn't make it due to the weather, but this is great for a February turnout." The silent auction began at 6:30 p.m. while refreshments were made availa- ble. Williams explains that there were a lot of great community donations with over 100 items being donated. With that large number, some of the items were grouped together into packages to cre- ate experiences to bid on. There was also a sealed bid auction with items for both auctions lining the walls of the hall. More donations were displayed in the entrance for a raffle draw. Following the dinner, the feature art- ist and guest speaker for the evening, Puck Merkies of Grand Bend, was intro- duced. Merkies donated her collection of her own watercolours and canvases to ASHC and had over 30 of her pieces on offer at the gala. She began her talk with "When we first got the diagnosis, the artist in me reacted and I went home and threw things against the wall." Merkies has used her art as a way to cope with the stresses and frustra- tions of being informed that her hus- band received the diagnosis of Alzhei- mer's Disease and in dealing with the progression of the illness. She extended the invitation that, "Anyone who goes home with one of my children, being my paintings, can contact me to get the story behind it. Every one of them has a story." The evening's entertainment also included Studio C, featuring Scott Chow as well as Jeanette Sears and Michael Crocker. Williams was appreciative that the sponsors for the evening had come out. "They have been really support- ive of the Society." She made note that the main local sponsors are Vanden Heuvel Structures Ltd. and Excalibur Insurance with Progressive Results Group (PRG) providing design work with Dylan Bartlett acting as the Mas- ter of Ceremonies for the evening, as well as VIA Rail Canada sponsoring the always popular train travel dona- tion for the auction. clintonnewsrecor/ MC KJLLOP SkLWANCE Notice of Annual General Meeting The 139`h Annual Meeting of the Members of MCKILLOP MUTUAL INSURANCE COMPANY will be held at the office of McKillop Mutual 91 Main Street South, Seaforth, Ontario Wednesday, March 9th, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. To receive, consider and approve the 2015 financial statement and auditor's report.
