The local Foodland and Valu -
Mart collected tons of food for the
first few weeks of December in
participation with this year's
CKNX food drive.
"Clinton was a great sup-
porter of the drive," said Huron
County Food Bank Distribution
Centre Executive Director Mary
Ellen Zielman.
Last year, the county's food drive
was able to gather around 1.5
53 -foot tractor -trailers with food.
This year, they were able to fill just
over two trailers. CKNX's Buzz
Reynolds said in a recent CKNX
story that for next year he believes
three trucks is an achievable goal.
This will be extremely useful for
the 10 Huron County food banks
the food will go to including local
food banks. Zielman said in an
October interview with the News
Record that 2016 was a particularly
busy year for the food bank.
"It's harder and harder for fami-
lies with two working parents to
make ends meet. Costs go up and
wages aren't, especially with part
time jobs; it's hard to get to the end
of the month," she said.
Their Christmas food drive is
one of their biggest of the year.
