piqued Wynne's interest. In
2013, she said: "We need to
find away to create dedicated
revenue streams for roads
and bridges, i.e., a fund that
would allow us to work with
municipalities to make sure
those infrastructure needs are
met"
Outside the privately
owned and operated High-
way407, there are no estab-
lished toll roads in Ontario,
but such roads -- and
bridges -- are not anew idea.
Indeed, when the Garden
City Skyway opened in 1963
at St. Catharines, a toll was
initially charged to help pay
for its cost.
As well, the Ministry of
Transportation in September
rolled out a pilot project that

year pilot project "will help
the province leam about and
plan for a more efficient high-
way network in Ontario,"
according to the MTO's
website.
Loosely translated, that
means the ministry is proba-
blylooking at introducing toll
roads to the rest of the

Ontario, despite Transport
Minister Steven Del Duca's
recent claim the province has
no such plans.

Home for the Holidays House Tour
Dear editor,
Over four hundred tour
visitors thoroughly enjoyed
the diversity of the five loca-
tions at the recent Home for
the Holidays House Tour.
Their comments were so
appreciated, making our tour
another success!
We express sincere
thanks to Dr. Peter Salsbury
and Kim Tessier, John and
Mary -Ann Neutel, Janet
Haverkamp at Maple Hill,
Lloyd and Teresa Jantzi and
the Royal Canadian Legion
for showing their properties.
Each location was willingly
offered assistance with
decor from our local busi-
ness Per-Fect Designs,
Backyard Flower Shop,
Nature's Nest, NJS Designs
and Interior Trends. NJS
Designs and Per-Fect
Designs transformed the
Legion into a spectacular
and comforting setting for
refreshment enjoyment.
Our thanks to Rick Shrop-
shall and his executive for
their use of the Legion. We
must not forget to give our
thanks to the Clinton News
Record and Focus for their
coverage prior to the tour.
Thanks to all.
Thanks to those who pur-
chased tour tickets. Without
your support, we could not
have achieved such a suc-
cessful tout Your support
enables us to continue
funding of our community
projects, for example the
Lions Park, as well as our
latest, the disc golf course.
We must not forget to thank
the local businesses who so
willingly sold tour tickets as
well as the many volunteers
assisting at each location.
A special Legion refresh-
ment stop included a door
prize draw of diamond jew-
elry, which was won by
Megan Scruton of Clinton.
Our congratulations!
We extend a huge thanks
to our wives for their assis-
tance in coordinating
another successful tour
fundraiser.
Sincerely,
The Lions Club of Clinton

• Auditors had found two major accounting
errors in the former village of Bayfield
finances from the year 2000. Bluewater trea-
surer Luanne Phair was investigating what
appeared to be $24,000 owed to the Federal
Government plus another $28,397.26 owed
to the Huron Perth Roman Catholic District
School Board.

• The first Reduced Impaired Driving Every-
where (RIDE) spot check of the Christmas
season had resulted in no charges being laid.
Two Clinton police constables conducted a
RIDE program on Victoria Street. Approxi-
mately 70 vehicles were stopped, but no vio-
lations were recorded.
• A meeting was held in Brucefield to discuss
proposals for a new Brucefield Volunteer Fire
Department hall. About 100 residents
attended the meeting and expressed their
concerns and made suggestions for the pro-
posed new fire hat. Howard Armstrong, the

• A horse named Harlo Buffy, owned by Pat
Brown of Clinton, picked up her sixth win
from 19 starts at the Western Fair Raceway in
London. John Muir of Seaforth was the
trainer -driver for the five-year-old pacing
mare. Buffy earned well over $5,500 in her
lifetime.
• Gisele Ireland, farm magazine columnist
and activist who with husband Brian ran a
hog operation near Teeswater gave a humor-
ous talk on the trials and tribulations of being
a farm wife. With high interest rates and the
country's economic slump she noted, "it's
getting harder and harder to find funny things
to write about." She figured a farm wife was
valued at $682 a week.
