One man was rushed to
hospital early Sunday even-
ing after he drove his mini-
van into iron fence at Judith
Gooderham Park, according
to witnesses.
At around 5 p.m., Nov 27,
the mini -van driving south
on Highway 21 crossed into
incoming traffic, jumped the
curb, hit a tree and flipped at
least once before coming to
a stop on its side against a
stone pillar.
"He just veered off the
road and just hammered
into that tree. And the gas
didn't let up so he went plow
through that tree. Spun over,
rolled once and then just
came to a stop," said an
employee at the Pioneer gas
station across the street who
asked not to be named.
He said the crash sounded
like thunder.
"It was just like the apoca-
lypse was coming," he said.
He said immediately after
the accident six to eight men
jumped to action and started
kicking out the windows of
the minivan as it started to
smoke.
He called them heroes.
"They booted every win-
dow out. One guy crawled
into the back. He helped cut
the seats and pulled him out.
Six of them hauled him out
of the sunroof," he said.
Eric German was the man
who crawled through the
back of the minivan.
"I didn't see the accident
fully," he told the Signal Star
through Twitter. "I live a half
block down Bruce Street.
Was raking the leaves and
heard the impact."
When he saw the car flip,
he said he dropped his rake
and ran over.
With 10 years of emer-
gency care medical training,
German said he went into
the back of the vehicle and
tried to stabilize the man's
spine.
But he said he didn't real-
ize the car was on fire.
"The guys outside advised
the flames were getting big-
ger so we extracted him
pretty quick," he wrote.
