The league was up 25% this year, which president Jeff Ryan says is all because of the Blue Jays. "The Blue Jays' success has really fun- nelled down to minor league baseball," he commented. This year, there were two Rookie and two Mosquito teams. One team which particularly excelled was the Bantams who got second over- all out of 14 teams in their tier. The Mosquito Red team ended in 9th out of 36 teams, with the Mosquito Grey team finishing in 24th. There was also a Mosquito OBA (Western Ontario Base- ball Association) team which played at a tournament in Kincardine from August 12-14. They ended up coming in second in the tournament after losing to Kincardine in the final match, and they will be participating in the "B" OBA championship this weekend in Chatham. The Peewees excelled as well achiev- ing fifth place against 28 teams. They have combined with Exeter to make an OBA team and will participate in the "C" OBA championship tournament this weekend in Orillia. The Rookie Red team won silver medals in the tier 1 consolation year end tournament. Two kids from Bantam went to the 2016 Summer Games. Every other year, the WOBA sends a team, and this year Cameron Ryan and Haden Bennewies from Clinton were on the team. Coaches Brad Thompson and Jeff Ryan went as well. They played in a three day tournament in Mississauga against teams from Windsor, Toronto and more. AMO conference talk with Mayor Ginn Justine Alkema Clinton News Record August marks the annual Association of Municipalities Ontario (AMO) con- ference which was attended by three members of Central Huron's council - Mayor Ginn, Councillor Anderson and Councillor Lobb. Mayor Ginn had a recent conversa- tion with the News Record to share some of what he took from the confer- ence that could affect our municipality. "I enjoyed this conference because they had some things pertinent to rural Ontario," said Ginn. "Quite often these conferences pertain more to cities." One theme at this year's conference was shared services which has been an ongoing discussion between numerous municipalities in Huron County. Beyond that, it is a discussion that many municipalities in Ontario are dis- cussing due to widespread tight funds. "The room was overflowing at the presentation on shared services," said Ginn. Central Huron recently passed a motion to abstain from comprehensive conversations about shared services for a year or two, giving them time to see how the shared service agreement between North Huron and Morris- Turnberry works out first. One thing which Mayor Ginn found particularly interesting was a presenta- tion from Seeley's Bay, a small town in eastern Ontario. They talked about how they received funding for public trans- portation even though it's a small town. One reason this came about is because people using social assistance were paying a lot of money in taxi fares for things like medical appointments, so public transportation was an asset in that way. Photo taken from centralhuron.com Central Huron Mayor Jim Ginn Another point of interest for Ginn was a presentation on community emergency management coordinators (CEMCs). Some places have a CEMC whose job is about disaster prepared- ness. If a disaster struck, the CEMC's job is to be aware of what the surround- ing municipalities have to offer. They would have a plan in case of emergency which involves working with the people and infrastructure in surrounding places. This would be a staff member that could be shared between many municipalities.
