Canada Al ocna Member of the Canadian Community Newspaper Association and the Ontario Community Newspapers Association OPP updates VEHICLE AND FIREARMS STOLEN (BLUEWATER, ON) - At 4 a.m. Monday August 22, a resident liv- ing on Centennial Road, South of Brucefield, heard a vehicle leave his rural property. He proceeded to check his vehicles as well as out- building and discovered that one of their vehicles had been stolen. Further investigation revealed that his shed had been entered and a number of long guns and cross- bows had been taken. Other vehi- cles on the property had been entered and rummaged through. The OPP was contacted and officers initiated an investigation. Huron County OPP Crime Unit officers as well as West Region Forensic Identification officers attended. They are continuing their investigation into this theft. Should you wish to remain anonymous, you may call Crime Stoppers at 1 -800 -222 - TIPS (8477) you may be eligible to receive a cash reward of up to $2,000 ATV STOLEN FROM RURAL RESIDENCE (NORTH HURON TWP, ON) — On Sunday evening on August 21, Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers were dis- patched to a residential farm prop- erty along Belfast Road East of Fordyce, where the home owner discovered the theft of an All -Ter- rain Vehicle (ATV). Investigation revealed that sometime between 2 p.m. Friday August 19, 2016 and the noon hour Saturday August 20, 2016, an unknown person entered onto the property and removed the ATV from an open driving shed. The ATV had been left with the key in the ignition. Description of ATV: Green 2006 Suzuki LA5 Had a gun rack Had a 3001b Warren winch on the front of the ATV Had Ontario ATV plate# 68LD9 attached to the back The Huron County OPP requests anyone with information about this theft, to contact them at 1-888-310-1122. Should you wish to remain anonymous, you may call Crime Stoppers at 1 -800 -222 - TIPS (8477), and you may be eligi- ble to receive a cash reward of up to $2 THEFT OF TIRES AND RIMS FROM DEALERSHIP (SOUTH HURON, ON) - Shortly after 1 a.m. on Saturday August 20, 2016, Huron County Ontario Pro- vincial Police (OPP) officers on patrol in the south end of Exeter located two vehicles on a car deal- er's lot whose rims and tires were removed. Investigation revealed that all four rims and tires were removed from two GMC Sierra pickup trucks. The trucks were located on the dealership lot on the east side of London Road (Hwy 4) just south of Exeter. The vehicles were parked on the south-east corner of the lot. Unknown person(s) attended the lot with a large type vehicle possibly a cube style van or a pickup truck with a trailer. They sought out the darkest corner of the lot and jacked up the trucks before being able to remove the rims and tires. The jack used caused damage to the body of the vehicles and when dropped on the pavement caused damage to the brakes. Further examination also revealed that a tail gate was also stolen from another nearby pickup truck. The rims were 22" in size, and the tires were Goodyear tires. The Huron County OPP requests anyone with information about this theft to contact them at 1-888- 310-1122. Should you wish to remain anonymous, you may call Crime Stoppers at 1 -800 -222 -TIPS (8477), you may be eligible to receive a cash reward of up to $2,000 IMPAIRED DRIVER ARRESTED (TOWNSHIP OF CENTRAL HURON, ON) - On Friday August 19, 2016, shortly before 7 p.m., a Huron County Ontario Provincial Police officer observed a Toyota pickup truck pull into a residential driveway along Winthrop Road. The pickup truck matched the description provided by an anon- ymous caller, who advised that the driver was allegedly intoxicated. The female driver of the pickup truck was spoken to and she dis- played sigs of impairment. She was arrested and transported to the Huron OPP Detachment where she failed two Intoxilyzer breath tests. 50 -year-old Bernice Irene Hoftyzer of the Township of Cen- tral Huron has been charged with the following Criminal Code of Canada offences: Driving while ability impaired - motor vehicle (alcohol). Driving with more than 80 mgs of alcohol in blood. She is scheduled to appear at the Goderich Court of Justice on Mon- day September 19, 2016, to answer to these charges. FROM THE ARCHIVES 15 years ago... • A Blyth area band named "Silence" released their first full-length compact disc "Saintless". They unveiled it at the Livery in Goderich. The band consisted of four brothers and their sister. • Businessman David Corrie who served Clinton for 40 years passed away at the age of 57. He started Corrie's Red and White where Corrie's Valu -Mart is currently located. This grocery store became the first Valu -Mart of the franchise. • Three black labs were stolen from near Goderich in three separate incidents; one of the labs had been in commercials and in the movie Fly Away Home. Two of the dogs were neu- tered, so they couldn't be used for breeding. 25 years ago... • A feature article was written about Bob LeBEau who quit farming to make a full time job out of restoring tractors. He had restored around 200 tractors at the time the article was written about him. • A feature article was written about 20 year-old Chanda McCaw who started a business in Vanastra called Chameleon Upholstery. 35 years ago... • Norman Alexander of Londesborough was honoured by the Soil Conservation Society of America for his dedicated work in erosion control. • A clerk -treasurer for Bayfield who was let go launched a lawsuit against the town claiming $20,000 in damages; $15,000 of that was for wrongful dismissal and $5000 was for general damages. • Local police were cracking down on kids who were biking on sidewalks. �houghts, observations or concerns about this community?
