Each year on Labour Day
weekend, Goderich has enjoyed
the West Coast Blues Festival in
the square. This year will be no
different, except for the fact that
there are two extra venues this
time around.
In the past, the festival has
featured eight walkabout venues
on the Friday night of the week-
end, but this year they will offer
10 venues.
"Our crowds are growing,"
said organizer John Harrison.
Last year upwards of 1500 peo-
ple attended. "This will spread
the crowd out a bit more so it
won't be quite as crowded. [...]
The two new venues are the Liv-
ery Theatre and the beer tent in
the square. All the venues are
indoors except the one under
the beer tent in Courthouse
Park."
The Friday night walkabout
will feature ten acts, and the cost
to get in is $10; upon entry each
person will receive a wristband.
To guarantee a spot, tickets can
be purchased ahead of time at
Wuerth Shoes, Fincher's gift
shop, Ernie King Music, and the
104.9 The Beach. A limited num-
ber of tickets will also be availa-
ble at the door of each venue on
Juno award winner David Gogo will
also perform.
the night of.
On Saturday, there are main
stage events all day. This will
be kicked -off with a motorcycle
show at 1 p.m. with acts to
follow.
The downtown square in
Goderich will be closed on that
Saturday, September 3, from 1-
6 p.m. It will be open for foot
traffic only.
The main stage is outdoors in
Courthouse Park, and the
admission fee is $5. There will be
a beer tent at the park, so this is
an age of majority event.
The performance stage will
feature six Canadian Blue acts
beginning with local favourites,
the Empty Threats, at 1:30 p.m.
This will be followed by the high
energy of the Bill Durst Band,
then the sensational prodigy,
Spencer MacKenzie, the Doug
Varty Blues Band, the Smoke
Wagon Blues Band and closing
with Juno award winner, David
Gogo.
"The festival is all Canadian
blues artists," said Harrison. He
noted that at some blue's festi-
vals there are other genres of
music, but this festival is strictly
Canadian blues music.
For the full line up and more
information about the event, go
to westcoastblues.ca.
"West Coast Blues has the
local support to host additional
'walkabout nights' throughout
the year that could feature
Country, Rock, Folk and Blue-
grass genres of music. This is
something we are seriously con-
sidering," said Harrison.
Profits raised through this fes-
tival will go back to the commu-
nity to support local arts, cul-
ture, community projects and
high school bursaries for stu-
dents pursuing post secondary
education in a music related
field.

More than 55 people recently
attended a dinner put on by the
Multicultural Association of
Huron -Perth at Community Cen-
tre Hall in Goderich. Many of
those people were newcomers to
Canada, and others were long-
time Canadian citizens.
In light of the cultures gathered
together, all different kinds of
foods were served, includingEthi-
opian, Ukrainian, Syrian and Rus-
sian food.
"The event was a thank you
dinner for the community who
invited these people," said
Gezahgn Wordofa, founder of the
association. "Goderich is a won-
derful community"
To express their gratitude to the
community, many of the new-
comers who attended the ban-
quet brought gifts including des-
serts and flowers.
"Newcomers to Perth and
Huron Counties enrich their
community by teaching us about
the world we live in and remind-
ing us that even though we may
be different, we are all the same"
