We had two three -game winners, Darlene Bard and Gerdien Dykm in a field of 40 players. On Aug. 9, we had 41 play- ers and four three -game win- ners. They were Lesley Bridg- eford, Jim Howard, Kevin Wade and Bill Godfrey. In the two weeks Huronia Propane donated a gift certifi- cate to Charles Eckel and Bob Miles. You must sign up for the meal in order to attend. clintonnewsrecord.com Some milestones of conser- vation workinAusable Bayfield watersheds, over each decade of the past 70 years, were high- lighted in a 70th anniversary presentation by Kate Monk, Supervisor of Stewardship, Land and Education at Ausable Bayfield Conservation. The presentation was at the Board of Directors meeting on Thurs- day, July 28. These highlights included: 1940s - The creation of the detailed 1949 Conservation Report. 1950s - Tree planting and acquisition of conservation lands; a renewed emphasis on flood plain management and flood forecasting, warning, and prevention following the tragic Hurricane Hazel that hit the Toronto area very hard as well as other areas; creation of Mor- rison Dam. 1960s - Creation of the Camp Sylvan Conservation Education Program, the long- est -running overnight nature education program of its kind in Ontario; creation of the Parkhill Dam to protect agricultural property from flooding. 1970s- Erosion control works in the Grand Bend area; addition of the Bayfield River Watershed to theABCAwatersheds; formation of the Ausable Bayfield Conser- vation Foundation in 1974; regu- lations to keep new development out of flood plain areas. 1980s - Creation and imple- mentation of Watershed Plans; Wednesday, August 17, 2016 • News Record 13 improvements at conservation areas and wildlife areas; a num- ber of studies and projects related to erosion control, stream rehabilitation, and more. 1990s - Creation and imple- mentation of a community - developed Conservation Strat- egy; the loss of staffing resources in the second half of the decade as provincial fund- ing to conservation authorities was slashed and there was a need to adapt to a new reality and define priorities and seek additional funding sources in order to continue to deliver watershed -based services and programs; the start of the Con- servation Dinner, working in partnership with the Exeter Lions Club to support local conservation programs and community improvements through a gala charitable auction. 2000-2010 - ABCA plants the five millionth tree; Watershed Report Card released; water quality monitoring expanded; Province of Ontario gives important role to conservation authorities in helping to protect municipal sources of drinking water as part of drinking water source protection, the first bar- rier of defence in the multi -bar- rier approach. 2010 to present - Creation and implementation of a new Conservation Strategy and Watershed Management Strategy.
