Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers are urging motor- ists to slow down and drive with cau- tion following several recent cases of Racing on our local Huron roadways. On July 25 shortly after 7:30 p.m. a Huron County OPP officer spot- ted a Ford Explorer travelling northbound on Bluewater Veter- an's Highway (Highway 21) near Blue Bluff Road at a high rate of ATTENTION ADVERTISERS! A speed measurement was taken and the speed was locked at 55 km/h over the posted 80 km/h zone. The vehicle was stopped by police and the 39 -year-old driver, Meagan DORAN from London has been charged with Racing. She now has a court date scheduled for September 20, 2016 at the Ontario Court of Justice - Goderich. Her licence has been suspended for seven days and her vehicle has been impounded for a week. Early this morning around 1:18 a.m. a Huron County OPP officer spotted a Hyundai Accent travelling southbound on London Road (High- way 4) near Kirkton Road at a high rate of speed. The speed of the vehi- cle was measured with a RADAR device and the speed was locked at a high of 145 km/h in a posted 80 km/h zone. The vehicle was stopped and the driver was subsequently charged. 38 -year-old Sheldon JOHN- SON from London has been charged with Racing. He now has a court date scheduled for October 4, 2016 at the Ontario Court of Justice - Goderich. His licence has been suspended for seven days and his vehicle has been impounded for a week. UNDERSTAND THE RISKS The risk of a fatality or serious injury is almost five times greater for vehicles crashing at 50 km/h or more above the posted limit on a highway with a posted limit of 100 km/h. The increase in risk is even greater on roads with lower posted limits. For example, on roads with a posted limit of 60 km/h or less, the risk of a fatality or serious injury is almost eight times greater for vehicles colliding at 50 km/h or more above the posted limit. KNOW THE PENALTIES An immediate seven-day licence suspension and seven-day vehicle impoundment at roadside. If convicted: Fines from $2,000 to $10,000 Courts can impose a driver licence suspension of up to 10 years for a second conviction within 10 years The accumulation of six demerit points, a maximum licence suspen- sion of two years for a first conviction and a maximum six months in jail. Increased insurance premiums TWO FEMALES FALL FROM MENESETUNG BRIDGE GODERICH, ON - Two females are currently in hospital with seri- ous injuries after they plummeted off the Menesetung Bridge this afternoon. At 12:21 p.m. on July 26, Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Huron County Paramedic Services, Goderich Fire Depart- ment and Canadian Coast Guard personnel responded to the Mait- land River in Goderich after a civil- ian called 9-1-1 to report two females had fallen into the river from atop the Menesetung Bridge. Two civilians immediately entered the Maitland River and provided lifesaving assistance until rescue units arrived on scene. A 17 -year-old female from Blue - water was transported to a hospital in London by air ambulance. She remains in hospital with serious but non -life threatening injuries. A 20 -year-old female from Goderich was transported to a local hospital. She remains in hospital with seri- ous injuries. Please Note: There are no safety concerns with the bridge and access to the Menesetung Bridge remains open to the public. GMC SIERRA PICKUP STOLEN - KEYS WERE LEFT IN THE VEHICLE HOWICK, ON - Officers from the Huron County Ontario Provin- cial Police (OPP) Detachment would like to once again remind residents to lock their vehicles when leaving them unat- tended. Furthermore, OPP investi- gators remind citizens to never leave your ignition key in an unat- tended vehicle. This reminder comes on the heels of another sto- len pickup truck investigation for the Huron County OPP Detachment. Investigators believe the truck was stolen sometime between 8:00 p.m. on July 22 and 8:00 a.m. on July 23, 2016. Sometime dur- ing this 12 -hour period those responsible entered onto a farm property located on McIntosh Line and found the unlocked farm truck with the keys in the ignition. The thief simply started up the truck and drove away undetected. The stolen truck is described as a 2000 GMC Sierra, 2500, 3/4 ton, two- tone red & burgundy body with pin stripes. The truck is equipped with a red, 300L diesel tank in the back bed of the truck used for fueling farm equipment. The truck is val- ued at approximately $8,500. TRAFFIC COMPLAINT LEADS TO SEVERAL CHARGES FOR DRIVER SOUTH HURON, ON - A novice driver from Kitchener is facing a num- ber of charges following a traffic stop that took place over the weekend south of Exeter. At approximately 1:42 a.m. on July 23, 2016 Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) offic- ers received a traffic complaint about a vehicle travelling northbound on London Road (Highway 4) down the middle of the road.
