On April 22, MPP for Huron -Bruce, Lisa Thompson helped recognize the Trillium Foundation for its contribution. There was a short fitness session to help showcase what participants can expect during the program. OnApril 22, MPP for Huron - Bruce, Lisa Thompson pre- sentedthe Trillium Foundation with a certificate ofrecognition forits contribution to the Minds in Motion program, as it has committed $385,400 over the nextthreeyears to help support it The Alzheimer Society of Huron County alreadyruns the program at the Goderich YMCA, the Grand Bend Com- munity Centre, the North Huron CommunityCentre and at ONE CARE in Clinton. The funds are a "grow grant'; which means the program will be startinginExeter aswell. Thompson said the Trillium Foundation is leadingbybeing an example that other organi- zationsin Ontario couldfollow. This type ofprogramming is so important, and the knowl- edge gained from the families participating is appreciated, Thompson said. The program is designed to be a collaborative approach to physicalfitness and brain stim- ulation for those living with dementia and their care part- ners. In takes place once aweek for eight weeks. The first hour involves a fitness session, and the second hour is dedicated to therapeutic recreation, like art and games. There are 12 otherAlzheimer societies offering the program in communities across the province, as well as province - wide in British Columbia, said Jeanette Sears, public educa- tion coordinator with the Alz- heimer Society of Huron County. There have been some promising results from partici- pants ofthe Minds in Motion program. Endurance improved by 20 per cent and strength improved by 15 per cent, Sears said.
