This weekend brought the
19th annual Bayfield Lion's
Club Home and Garden Show.
The event took place in the
Bayfield community centre and
featured approximately 70
exhibitors with goods in areas
such as lawn and garden, enter-
tainment, equipment, home
decor, investments, insurance,
pest control, porches and
decks, renovations, water treat-
ment, and more.
The event, which typically
draws between 1500-2000
people, is a fundraiser for the
Lion's Club. Since the Lion's
Club is dedicated to the com-
munity, all the money raised
goes straight back into the
community.
This year, the club chose to
open up the centre of the
upper level to invite all the
local non -profits, free of
charge.

• Meningitis claimed the life of a two year-old
Vanastra girl. The case is confirmed as being
not contagious after her passing. The girl had
pneumococcus, a common bacteria that is a
frequent cause of pneumonia and ear infec-

the nose and throat, broke into the girl's blood
stream reaching the girl's spinal fluid causing
pneumococcus meningitis which proved fatal.
• The arena debate in Bluewater made tem-

chan, R.R. 4, Seaforth. The loss was estimated
at more than $75,000. Cause of the blaze had
not been determined at that point. The Carno-
chans were away from home at the time and
a baby-sitter called in the alarm. The Bruce -
field and Seaforth volunteer fire departments
responded.
• An announcement is put out that in four
weeks, Clinton would kick off its first every
