They house 15 youth at a time who can stay for 2 weeks free and for up to a year as they get their lives in order for $400.00 a month. Which means the residents must have a job or some means of support and be gone from the building to work or school every day. Shelter Link assists by putting the youth in touch with Ontario Works and food banks or community meals. Bev feels certain that because of this housing, youth are not seen on the streets of Stratford and other towns in the counties. Ms Hagedorn stated that when kids arrive on their doorstep they are in dire cir- cumstances having experi- enced the worst possible things one could imagine. Deciding which problem to address first can be a chal- lenge. These young people have trust issues and it can take some time for them to feel reassured. Just being available is a most important aspect to help. Referencing case studies Bev revealed some of the issues they encounter. Bev tells the youth, as she did the ladies, that "God will not fall off His throne if we tell Him what He already knows." Each member of the staff brings their own area of expertise and develops tricks to reach out to the young people. Just 'talking good' to these youth can restore their own sense of self. However there will always be some who cannot or will not be helped. Funded by the Ministry of Child and Youth Services the shelter is always in need of more monies in order to do more and they do fundraisers for extras. There are associa- tions and restaurants/cater- ers that donate to the shelter. The UCW ladies felt relief that there are places like Shel- ter Link and its staff to help these vulnerable in our soci- ety. Half of the event's offering was donated to their work Muriel Coultes lead the closing devotion. Each lady was given awrapped candy. It may not have been the candy of their choice but neither are the circumstances each encounter in life. So God expects one to make the best of what He gives. With one hand behind their backs the candy needed to be unwrapped. As in life working with one another brings results. The supporting scrip- ture verse was Matt. 20:40. Londesborough United Church The hymn/anthem sung by the senior choir at Londesborough United Church on Sunday, April 10 was titled "Said Judas to Mary" and it was a conversa- tion that might have taken place at the first Easter. Tom Pollard read the morn- ing's Minute for Missions. When the children gath- ered at the front of the sanctu- ary with Rev. Fletcher he offered an all ages story and cautioned the adults to be lis- tening as well. Terry offered a variety of circumstances and the listeners had to decide 'who will you put your trust in?' Who should fly your vaca- tion plane or help with your stomach ache? The big ques- tion was who will you trust to guide you to heaven? The answer, of course, was Jesus who walks with everyone every step of the way. Acts 5:27-42 was the scrip- ture passage supporting Rev Fletcher's message to the adults, "The Test of Failure': In these verses Gamaliel warned that persecuting the apostles for teaching about God might backfire for the disci- ples might be spreading the real truth. Rev. Fletcher gave several examples of things which, in spite of naysayers, have stood the test of time: Communism, Depotism, airplanes, tele- phones, computers, etc. Although society has changed 2000 years of evidence sup- ports the teachings of God. The basic message is still, God loves us totally as we are. Gloria Wilbee will be con- ducting the Sunday services the next two Sundays as Terry takes study leave. The Swiss Chalet take-out is by advance tickets only. You can purchase tickets until Monday, April 18 for the meal on April 27. Tickets are $14.00.
