Fire Chief David Sparling presented his annual update to Council. During the pres- entation Sparling stated that in the next two weeks he will be tabling changes to clean up existing bylaws to better reflect how things work. He addressed the number of calls the department receives. Before 2013 the average num- ber of calls was 130 per year. In 2014 it jumped to 194 calls. There were 152 calls in 2015. In reviewing these numbers, the department is now budg- eting for 150 calls per year for both coverage areas. Sparling explained that about four years ago an operat- ing reserve was added to the budgeting. The target for this reserve is $50,000. In 2014 due to the spike in calls and other factors the reserve had shrunk to a deficit of $16,000. Currently the reserve has been brought backup to $2,000 which is not much to work with. It was pointed out that the tanker will need to be replaced a year earlier than budgeted for. It was in the budget for 2017, but needs to be done now. Coun- cil voted in favour of contrib- uting $720 towards the parade, advertising and luncheon at the celebration and to provide a letter of sup- port for their website. Council also voted in favour of extending the draft approval of the plan for the condominiums known as Harbour Lights after a lengthy discussion. The owners are in their second stage of develop- ment which originally was approved in 2003. They have already received three prior extensions, which caused some concern both with Plan- ning and with Council. How- ever, since there has been some recent movement on addressing the issues that are outstanding, both Planning and Council agreed to approve one final extension to meet conditions of the plan. Discussions continued regarding future plans for recycling and waste disposal. A concem of both Mayor Ginn and Councillor Lobb is that there still needs to be a way to deal with items that do not fit in the normal categories for sorting. There should be a local place to take occasional loads of this type of debris. Lobb voiced the concern that if this is not addressed that the items would begin to show up along rural roads as aban- doned. Councillor Wester- hout was assured that the county will continue to han- dle the hazardous waste. Dep- uty Mayor Jewitt and Councillor Metzger supported a motion that at some point Council will need to decide if Central Huron needs to go to mandatory pick- up ickup of all waste. 191h Annual Rayfield Lions April 22nd, 23rd Si H Q IN and 24th 2016 -1,1fr FRIDAY , . tisti SATURDAY M µ ll am-5pm SUNDAY 5-9pm, ll am-4pm at Bayfield Arena & Community Centre L OVE EXHIBITOR:•Zp% new Exhibitors FREE Food Donk Donations Accepted Join us for... • Food Court • Displays by a dozen Village service and interest clubs Door Prizes • BBQ courtesy of Mcllwain's Garage • Four (4) Gift Baskets, each including a $100 Foodland Gift Card courtesy of Bayfield Foodland.
