Earth Day Events in Bayfield
Special to the
Clinton News Record
The Bayfield River Valley
Trail Association (BRVTA)
invites the community to cel-
ebrate Earth Day on Friday,
April 22 with two special Earth
Day events that focus on both
local and global environmen-
tal concerns.
The 2nd Annual Earth Day
Litter Walk begins at 1 p.m. at
Clan Gregor Square in Bay-
field. Walkers can check in
with organizers at the pavil-
ion, where they will choose
their own route or area and be
given bags to collect garbage
and recycling as they walk.
Filled bags will be picked up
for disposal by the municipal-
ity. Last year over 50 volun-
teers participated in gathering
up litter from streets and pub-
lic lands throughout Bayfield.
Those wishing to participate
should dress for the weather
and wear their own work
gloves. They can sign up to
collect garbage anytime
between 1 and 4 p.m. Groups

The Varna Crokinole Club
met for their last lime this sea-
son. They were served a lovely
roast beef dinner by the Bruce -
field Community United
Church Women. They then fol-
lowed with a few games of
crokinole which was enjoyed.
Members are reminded to keep
the Worlds Croknole in Tavis-
tock in mind. It will be Saturday
June 4 and there are both recre-
ational and competitive divi-
sions as well as doubles and
singles.
Players come from all over
the world and it makes for an
interesting day. You must regis-
ter before that day. If interested
please call Joan for more info

meet again October 11
and there will be an Ontario

field Community United
Church on October 15 2016.

hosted their card party once
again with 7 tables in play. High
man was John McKenzie, low
man Don Brodie, High lady
Ruth Pickard and low lady was
MaryFotheringham. Most lone
and local organizations are
also urged to participate, by
encouraging their members
to come out on Earth Day to
clean up the parks and public
areas in our community. The
last of the melting snow
always reveals a disturbing
amount of garbage on our
highways and byways, but the
concerned residents of Bay-
field can be applauded for
tackling this problem through
what is becoming an annual
'spring cleaning' by local
volunteers.
The second event takes
place on the evening of Earth
Day. The BRVTA is hosting a
special screening of the docu-
mentary "This Changes Eve-
rything." This game changing
and provocative film by Avi
Lewis premiered at the 2016
Toronto International Film
Festival and is based on the
critically acclaimed best-seller

Naomi Klein. She changed the
global conversation on cli-
mate change by asking the
question 'what if confronting

beyond simply exposing and
criticizing this looming global
crisis, Lewis and Klein pro-
pose a call to action for a new
future. Their hope is that
through communityviewings
of the film, the public will
become engaged in conversa-
tion and dialogue about the
crucial issue. The film builds
11
to a controversial and exciting
idea: that we can seize the
existential crisis of climate
change to transform our failed
economic system into some-
thing radically better. Whether
you agree with their proposal
or not, the film promises to be
a thought-provoking and con-
troversial conversation -starter
for Earth Day.
"This Changes Everything"
will be screened at St. Andrew's
United Church in Bayfield,
beginning at 7:30 p.m. on Earth
Day, Friday, April 22. Admis-
