7O% Holsteins
l'Pearly 4,000 herds ompris-
ing semi* 106,0.00 cows—were on
test under ,the Record. of Per-
formance program for dairy
cattle at the beginning of Oc-
tober, reports the Livestock Di-
vision, Canada Department of
Agriculture.
The number being tested
was about the same as that of
a year ago, with herds coming
off test generally balanced by
those entering the program.
Holsteins were dominant,
accounting for about 70 per
cent of the herds tested.
A breakdown of herds on
test shows 57.4 per cent com-
prised 25 cowt or less; 36.3. per
cent between 26 and 50, and
6.3 per cent more than 501 110W -
ever, the average number of
cows tested in RQP herds was
•
27, since approximately 60 per
cent of the test cows were in
herds of more than 25 head.
