HOLDS CHRISTMAS MEETING
firs. Percy Harris presided for
the Christmas meeting of Chis-
elhurst UCW, held Tuesday af-
ternoon with 23 present. Open-
ing the meeting with a Christ-
mas poem and prayer, Mrs. Wm.
Brintnell conducted the devo-
tional with Christmas as the
theme. Missionary prayer was
offered by Mrs. Alvin Cole; Mar-
ilyn Brintnell gave a recitation;
I rs. Harold Currie, a Christ-
mas message, and a ladies'
quartette, composed of Mrs. Al-
vin Cole, Mrs. Clarence Cole-
man, Mrs, Alf Ross and Mrs.
Tom Brintnell, sang, "I Heard
the Bells on Christmas Day."
A film on Hong Kong and a
reading by Mrs. R. Taylor con-
cluded this delightful program.

Recalls Holy Lard Visit
As UCW Members Meet
Hensall United Church Wo-
men held their annual Christ-
mas meeting in the church sanc-
tuary, enhanced by glowing
candelabra Monday evening.
The meeting was in charge of
the executive.
President Mrs. Walter Spen-
cer opened with a portion of
scripture, followed by prayer.
Mrs. E. T. Rowe presented an
inspiring Christmas message
from a book of Rev. Peter Mar-
shall, entitled, "Let's Keep
Christmas." Mrs. Dave Kyle led
in prayer. A solo, '"Bethlehem,"
was sung by Mrs. William Fuss,
accompanied, by Mrs. J. God-
dard.
Guest speaker of the evening,
Dr. H. Cowan, of Exeter, who
spoke of his trip to the Holy
Land, and showed his colored
slides taken of his trip.
Mrs. T. Sherritt presided at
the piano for the singing of
Christmas carols. Bob Forrest
favored with several Christmas
carols on his trumpet and his
accompanist was Mrs. Wm. Fuss.
Following the benediction all
were invited to the Sunday
school rooms for a short busi-
ness session, followed by re-
freshments.
The 1964 slate of officers was

The Christmas meeting of the
Kinette Club of Hensall was
held at the home of Mrs. Jack
Drysdale Wednesday night. Mrs.
Harold Bonthron and Mrs. Ro-
bert Reaburn attended as
guests.
Two boxes of children's cloth-
ing and toys were packed and
will be sent' to the Children's
Aid Society at Goderich. A
short business session preceded
a delightful evening of court
whist and prizes were won by
Mrs. Reaburn and Mrs. William
Fuss. Mrs. Robert Caldwell won
the raffle
Tfie January meeting will be
held at the home of Mrs. Jim
Hyde.
Twelve Christmas boxes were
packed Thursday afternoon at
the' home of Mrs. Earl Camp-
bell for the shut-ins of Carmel
Church, Hensall. Several mem-
bers of the WMS of the church,
who sponsored the project, as-
sisted Mrs. Campbell with the
packing and delivering.
In the weekend comic section
of the London Free Press, Dec.
7, in Jimmy Hatlo's, "They'll
Do It Every Time," a cartoon
appeared drawn by Wayne F.
Ellwood, when he attended
school here. Wayne, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Frank Ellwood, a for-
mer CNR station agent here,
took up residence some three
years ago in Oshawa.
Mr. George Smale, who has
been a patient in Clinton Pub-
lic Hospital, where he under-
went surgery, was removed to
St. Joseph's Hospital, London,
on Wednesday.

The First Hensel], Girl Guides
donated the proceeds from their
Christmas tag project which
amounted to $40.00, to the Kins-
men Club of Hensall, to be used
for their playground project.
The presentation was made by
First Class Guide Lois Simmons
at a dinner meeting of the Kins-
men Club Thursday evening. Al-
so attending were Cheryl Lit-
tle, Jane Pyette and Captain
Mrs. Jim Kyle.
The Arnold Circle of Carmel
Presbyterian Church, Hensall,
held their Christmas meeting
Monday evening with president
Mrs. Gordon Schwalm conduct-
ing the meeting. Mrs. Ross, Mac-
Donald spoke of the leadership
course that the CGIT held in
Toronto.
The worship period•, pertain-
ing to the Christmas theme, was
in charge of Mrs. John Baker
and Mrs. Gerald Bell, with Mrs.
Baker reading the story of "The
Black Madonna." Rev. MacDon-
ald give the Christmas message
and favored with a solo, accom-
panied at the piano by Mrs.
MacDonald.
Hold Party
On Birthday
A surprise party was held for
Mrs. Lorne Webster at the home
of her daughter,. Mrs. Robert
Watson, to celebrate her 81st
birthday.
The decorated table was cen-
tred by a birthday cake and
candles. Those present were
Mr. and Mrs. William Dodds,
Mr. and Mrs. Clendon Christie,
Catherine Anne and Mr. and
Mrs. Donald Dodds. Her other
two daughters, Mae, Mrs. Hol-
land, and Freda, Mrs. Eric
Richter, were unable to attend.
BRUCEFIELD
UCW Unit No, 1, The Friend-
ly Unit, met at the home of
Mrs. D. Triebner on Tuesday
evening. Mrs.' H. Taylor and
Mrs. Edgar Stoll had charge of
the devotions with a Christmas
theme. Mrs. John Henderson
gave the secretary's report and
Mrs. E. Sillery, the treasurer's
report and received the offer-
ing.
Mrs. Wilmer Broadfoot, the
leader, presided for the busi-
ness part. It was decided to
cater to the banquet for the
Tuckersmith councillors Tues-
day evening. Mrs. Mac Wilson
gave,a reading; Mrs. W. Broad -
foot read a Christmas story, and
Mrs. William Gibson of Hensall
demonstrated the making of
Christmas table centres. Mrs.
E. 'Sillery received the Sample.
The members wished to re-
member those of the unit that
were unable to attend with a
Christmas card. Mrs. John Hen-
derson acted for Santa Claus
and an exchange of gifts was
held.
Mrs. Triebner and her com-
mittee, Mrs. Thompson, Mrs.
Baird, Mrs. Broadfoot and Mrs.
Berry, served a delicious lunch.
Hensall WI,
Has Meeting
Hensall Legion Hall, lovely in
decorations in Christmas motif,
was the setting for the Christ-
mas meeting of Hensall Wo-
men's Institute Wednesday eve-
ning, with 65 present. President
Mrs. Beverly Beaton presided
and extended a. welcome to the
members and guests. The roll
call, a cash donation, amounted
to $23.00, which will be for-
warded to the Children's Aid
Society, Goderich. Christmas
cards from the various branch-
es were on display.
Mrs. R. M. Peck took the
chair for the program. Mrs.
Harold Currie, guest speaker,
gave an interesting and appro-
priate Christmas message. The
Misses Jane .Pyette and Joan
Simmons contributed vocal
duets, and Bill Gibson demon-
strated Christmas table centres.
In the draw, Mrs. R. A. Orr
and Mrs. Chester Lee were the
winners.
Mrs. Orville Jones led in car-
ol singing with Miss Greta Lam-
mie at the piano. Mrs. Pyette
gave courtesy remarks. Deli-
cious refreshments were served.
Lucky plate was won by Mrs.
Garfield Broderick.
Program conveners were Mrs.
R. M. Peck and Mrs. V. M.
Pyette; hostesses, Mrs. Alfred
Beer and Mrs. Joe Ferguson.
