IN TAYLOR FAMILY PICNIC PLANS
The annual reunion of the
Taylor family was held due to
weather conditions in Staffa
Hall, Sunday, July 14, with ap-
proximately 100 present. The
afternoon was spent in the re-
calling of former days and in
reminiscing.
At 5:30 everyone sat down to
a bountiful supper, During the
supper hour the birthday of
Russell Taylor, Indianapolis, In-
diana, and his nephew, Russell
Taylor of Staffa were appropri-
ately celebrated with decorated
cakes. Pictures of the family,
the second generation of Tay-
lor boys, and the visitors from
a distance, were taken. In a
few words, greetings were
brought from Manitoba by Dav-
id,Johnston of Pilot Mound and
Jaines Pollock, Killarney.
Guests from a distance were:
Mr. and Mrs. Russell ° Taylor,
Indianapolis, Indiana; Mr. and
Mrs. David Johnston, Pilot
Mound, and James Pollock, Kil-
larney, , Manitoba. The newly-
weds, Mr. and Mrs. Russell Tay-
lor, Staffa, were present, as
well as the youngest baby,
Cheryl Taylor, infant daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Taylor,
Varna.
Guests were present from
Listowel, Walkerton, Walton,
Zurich, Brucefield, Clinton, Var-
na, Staffa, Indiana and Mani-
toba.
A tourist in Paris was en-
deavottring to use some of his
high school French to order his
luncheon. " Garsong," he said,
"je desire consoome royal, et
unpiece of pang et burrie—no
hang it—une piece of burr—"
"I'm sorry, sir," said the
tactful 'waiter, "I don't speak
French."
"Well," snapped the tourist,
"for heaven's sake send some-
one who can."

SEES EARLY END OF HOG .CHOLERA PROBLEMS
Dr. K. F. Wells, Canada's
Veterinary Director General,
is optimistic that the hog
cholera problem on the North
American continent may be
solved reasonably soon.
"We look forward to its re-
duction and ultimate elimina-
tion in the United States," he
commented.
Dr. Wells noted that the U.S.
has embarked on a program of
eventual eradication of the

THE HILL BUILT BY MANY
CIVILIZATIONS
At Chohela, on the Mexican
plateau, rises an immense pyra-
mid. It is all that remains of
what tradition says was a great
city of 300,000 people, 400 tem-
ples and a legion of priests,
back in the days when the
Spaniards conquered Mexico.
Today, the pyramid appears to
be simply a high hill. Trees
and bushes cover it, and it is
crowned by a church. Under
its surface lie the remains of
succeeding Indian civilizations,
Teotihuacan, Toltec, Mixtec and
Aztec.

Canada has followed a policy
of eradication for more than
60 years. Possible epidemics
are stamped out by slaughter-
ing the affected hogs and com-
pensating owners.
Now Britain has taken a
leaf from the Canadian book.
A compulsory slaughter pol-
icy with compensation was
launched last month in England,
Wales and Scotland.
A similar program was intro-
duced in Britain prior to World
War I, but was abandoned in
1916 after attempts to salvage
some of the infected carcasses
undermined its effectiveness.
Outbreaks of hog cholera
were up sharply in Britain
last year with 1,600 outbreaks
in England, Wales and Scot-
land in the first 10 months of
1962. Previously the number of
outbreaks had averaged about
1,000 per year.

"That is one thing, of course,"
Mr. Forbes said, "but .we are

The co-ordinator,' who took

"With the heads of the var-

done, we will go ahead with
our planning and sel if we can-
