PB -16 HURON •FED•ERATION 'NEWS: By MRS. JOHN W. ELLIOTT Secretary The annual worship service was held on June 23rd at Glen- huron (Salvation Army Camp). Bayfield, the weather being per- fect and the Salvation Army provided a program well worth any effort anyone took to at- tend this well organized serv- ice. Elmer Ireland, president of the Huron County Federation of Agriculture, welcomed all those present and handed the rest of the service over to Cap- tain Newman, of the Salvation Army. The Captain had two travelling musicians( one from Los Angeles. and one from Cali- forhii. 'Whey played a good many duets •on their coronets, which were enjoyed. William Henderson led in prayer, and the hymns were well chosen by Captain Newman. Captain New- man took his text from Rom- ans, chapter 1, the subject be- ing, "Paying Our Debts." Major and Mrs. L. Titcombe, the directors of Camp Glenhur- on, made everyone welcome and showed every courtesy possible and a picnic lunch, with choco- late milk, was greatly enjoyed. James Boynton reported on a meeting which had been called by the CFA to consider hog quality programs. He remark- ed that the difficulty in arrang- ing a meeting of this kind is that it does not include all in- terested groups. He remarked that the meeting had finally re- ferred back to the provinces a further study of this matter, asking them to convene meet- ings of interested people in ev- ery province. He said it had been agreed that more docu- mentition was required. It was hoped provincial meetings could be held' the latter part of June or by July 15, to do something about improving hog quality, and it is expected the nation- al committee will .meet some time in August. Mr. Boynton sail he would be glad to work with the OFA office in arrang- ing a date for a meeting on hog quality in Ontario. AI HI K. Musgrave reported at the members' meeting of IFAP Conference recently con- cluded in Dublin, Ireland, when representatives of some 30 na- tions met for eleven days to Sell that unnecessary piece of furniture through a Huron Ex- positor Classified Ad. He remarked on the problems which' can arise when discussions must lie carried on in two languages -- English and French—with many delegates present` who could not understand eitherof these lang- uages. The Canadian delegation had supported an international grain agreement and to have the wheat agreement include coarse grains. They had agreed to continuation of the world food program at the end of its terms and that food rhight be used as capital to build up pro- duction capacity of these na- tions since in feeding workers to build a dam to create irri- gation projects which improve production in a country you do not infringe on markets, but by sending food indiscriminate- ly into areas where it might compete with a country's pro- duction you defeat the real pur- pose of attempting to assist these countries. Mr. Musgrave said that Canada had not had representation on the IFAP ex- ecutive due to the absence of Dr. H. H. Hannam. Former McKillop Minister Retires A former McKillop minister, Rev. William H. Summerell, will retire June 30th after 51 years service in the' ministry. Mr. Summerell preached on the McKillop charge for a num- ber of years. For the past two years he has been minister- of the Bright - Bethel - Chesterfield charge of the United Church of Canada in the Doon area.
