MR. AND MRS. LLOYD PORTER of Walton were guests
of honor at gatherings on Saturday on the occasion of their
' golden wedding anniversary. They were married at the home
of the bride's parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Bennett,

WALTON COUPLE CELEBRATE
Walton Community Hall was
the scene of activity on Satur-
day afternoon when Mr. and
Mrs. Lloyd Porter of Walton
were entertained by their
daughters, Mrs. Cliff Kernoghan,
Brussels, and Mrs. Jim Lamont,
London, to a 50th wedding an-
niversary dinner, when 25 sat
down to a sumptuous turkey
-dinner .... _ __ _ ..
This was followed by open
house afternoon and evening
for over 150 friends. The hall
was decorated in pink and
white peonies. Mr. and Mrs.
Porter received many useful
gifts, showing the esteem in
which they are held by friends
and relatives in the commun-
ity.
Pouring tea were Mrs. Geo.
Dundas, Walton; Mrs. Roy Ben-
nett, Walton; Mrs. Lena David-
son and Mrs. Tom Watson, Lon-
don, and Mrs. Donald McTag-
gart, Brussels. Tea room as-
sistants were Mrs. Murray Dav-
idson, London; Mrs. Bruce Wal-
ters, Sarnia; Mrs. Stewart Hum-
phries, Mrs. Ronald Bennett,
Mrs. Herb Traviss, Mrs. Wm.
Coutts and Mrs. Ross Bennett,
all of Walton; Mrs: Ross Mc-
Taggart, Mrs. Elgin McTaggart,
Cranbrook, and Mrs. W. C.
Bennett, Clinton.
Mr. and Mrs.' Elgin Porter,
Winnipeg, Man., and a son Wil-
liam and wifeattended the ev-
ent. Guests were present from
Clarkson, Wingham, London,
Sarnia, Seaforth, Lucknow, Win-
nipeg and Walton community.
Mr. and Mrs. Porter were
married at the home of the
bride, who was the eldest
daughter of the late Mr. and
Mrs. Joseph Bennett. Their on-
ly attendant was the bride's sis-
east of Brussels until they mov-
ed to Walton in 1945.
Members of the Brodhagen
Band played during the sup-
per hour and,•program at Kurtz-
ville Arena "last Wednesday.
Mrs. Jake Higenell who spent
the winter months with her
daughter, Mrs. Edwin Rock, and
Mr. Rock, has gone to Mitchell
to stay with another daughter,
Mrs. Bob Butson, and Mr. But-
son.
Mrs. Ernest Elligsen accom-
panied Mr. and Mrs. Alvin El-
ligsen and Mr. and Mrs. Harold
Elligsen to Windsor to attend
the wedding of her grand-
daughter, Janet Elligsen, daugh-
ter of Mr. and Mrs. Earl El-
ligsen (Valeria Rose), to Mr.
Patrick Morkin.
Messrs. George and William
Diegel accompanied Mr. and
Mrs. Wilfred Suehring and NIrs.
Henry Brunner, of Sebring-
ville, to Owen Sound on Sun-
day for the installation of Rev.
Calvin Diegel, son of William
Diegel and grandson of George
Diegel and Mrs. Brunner, as
pastor of the Lutheran Church,
Owen. Sound.
-Mrs. Rosina Miller has been
visiting with Mrs. John Gloor,
Mitchell.
Rev. and Mrs. John Arbuckle,
Billy and Bobby, of Smith Falls,
visited at the home of Mrs. Al-
bert Querengesser. Mrs. Quer-
engesser returned to Smith
Falls with them for a visit, and
Billy remaining to work on the
farm of Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Ben-
newies 'for the summer.
The 40th wedding annivers-
ary of Mr. and Mrs. John Gard-
ner, of Mitchell, was celebrated
by the family and relatives at
the Community Hall recently.
Miss Diane Beuerman of Sea -
forth is spending the summer
with her grandmother, Mrs. L.
Hillebrecht.
Mrs. Ed. Jarmuth is visiting
her daughter, Mrs. Holm at Hal-
iburton.
Mr. Bruce Miller of Galt is
spending the summer at the
Meyer home.
The sympathy of the commun-
ity is extended to Mrs. George
Byers and family in the death
of her husband, George Byers.
Allan French has taken a
job in Stratford for • the holi-
days.
A shower was held for Mr.
and Mrs. Henk Leenwestien
(nee Marjorie Robinson) of Mit-
chell at the Community Hall.

and family of Kitchener and
Mr. and Mrs. Elwood Armitage
and Joan of Winghanf visited
Mr. and Mrs. William Ruth,
Stratford, recently.
Two. beautiful bouquets of
red and white carnations adorn-
ed the altar of St. Peter's Luth-
eran Church in memory of Lar-
ry Trentowsky, who passed
away two years ago, June 21.
They were placed by his par-
ents, Mr. and Mrs. Adolph
Trentowsky and sister, Shirley.

Crowd gathered at the Com-
munity 'Hall to celebrate the
25th wedding ''1 anniversary of
Mr. and Mrs. Herman Leon-
hardt. Mrs. Leonhart is the
former Minnie Meyer, daughter
of the late Mr. and Mrs. Wm.
Meyer, and Mr. Leonhardt is the
son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry..
Leonhardt, Sr., who resides
with them. They have a family
of three sons: Henry, near St.
Marys, Richard and Earl, at
home, and one grandson, Dale
Leonhardt.
The evening was spent in
playing progressive euchre,
prizes going to Mrs. Mervyn
Leonhardt, Mervyn Hodgert,
Mrs. Wilfred Ahrens and Irvin
Scherbarth, low.
Mr. and Mrs. Leonhardt were
presented with a studio coach„
occasional chair, step-up table
and lamp and floor polisher.
Mrs. Harold Rock read the ad-
dress of good wishes.
Mr. and Mrs. C. Cardwell of
Detroit visited with her broth-
er, Gus Herbert, and Mrs.
Herbert.
Mr. Louie Kahle of Detroit
has been visiting at the home
of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Eick-
meir.
The family of Mr. and Mrs.
R. Sholdice planned an open
air barbecue at the home of
Mr. and Mrs. Gary Sholdice on
Saturday night, to celebrate
their parent's 30th wedding an-
niversary, and they were the
recipients of lovely gifts.
Mr. and Mrs. Sholdice have a
family of three sons and one
daughter, Gary of Brodhagen,
Warren of Toronto, and Roger
and Beverley at home, and two
grandsons, Paul and Mark Shol-
dice.
A big night of fun and en-
tertainment is planned -by the
Brodhagen Band for all who
attend their social this week.

ed after taking a six-week
course in Hamilton.
