Holds Meeting
The regular meeting of the
Seaforth WI was held at the
home of Mrs. John Hillebrecht
Wednesday evening. The presi-
dent, Mrs. James Keys, was in
the chair. The meeting opened
with the Maryt Stewart Collect
and the Lord's Prayer. Min-
utes were read by Mrs. W. Cole-
man. Short courses for the
coming year were discussed,
with the ladies, choosing millin-
ery, with home furnishings and
block printing as second choice.
Report of the district annual
was' given by Mrs. R. Gordon.
Plans are going ahead for the
unveiling of the Van Egmond
Memorial, to be held on July 7
in Egmondville.
It was decided to hold the
annual picnic on July 28 in
Stratford Park.
Mrs. L Hudson and .Mrs. J.
Hillebrecht were in charge of
the meeting. A poem was read
by Mrs. Hudson, and Mrs, J.
McLean and Mrs. R. Doig con-
ducted •a contest. Mrs. Hille-
brecht gave a reading, and a
sing -song was conducted.

Miss Marlene McLachlan, pop-
ular bride of 'Saturday, was hon-
ored at several showers pre-
vious to her marriage. Mrs.
Rose :Verner, of Zurich. enter-
tained at her home at a mis-
cellaneous shower. Mrs. Eric
Sw itzer, aunt of the bride, gave
a miscellaneous shower at her
home in Clinton. Mrs. F16ssie
Mair, Marten's landlady in Lon-
don, gave a surprise treasurer
hunt shower. The staff of the
Royal Bank of Canada in.Lon-
don, 'where the bride was em-
ployed over five years, present-
ed her with several piece of
corning ware. The Royal Bank
made the presentation of an
individual gift. A miscellaneous
shower was held by School Sec-
tion No. 14, Stanley.
Hold Trousseau Tea
Mrs. William McLachlan en-
tertained at her home on Sat-
urday, June 8, at a trousseau
tea in honor of her daughter,
Marlen, whose marriage to Mr.
Glenn Deichert of London took
place June 15 at St. Peter's
Lutheran Church, Zurich. The
guests were received during the
afternoon and evening by the
bride -elect and her mother.
Pouring tea in the afternoon
from the tea table, covered with
a lace cloth, centred with pink
carnations and .white snapdra-
gons and lighted candelabra,
were: Mrs. Margaret McLach-
lan, .grandmother of the bride,
and Mr's. Jacob Deichert, aunt
of the groom. Serving were

en Talbot,- Miss Lorraine Talbot
and Mrs. Keith Bennewies. Tea

A brother, Rev. Norman O'Con-
nor, of the Paulist Fathers, was
deacon of the Mass. They are
the sons of Mr. Art O'Connor,
of Royal Oak, Michigan.
The monthly meeting of Dub-
lin council of 'the .Catholic Wo-
men's League was held in the
parish hall: Mrs. Harold Meag-
her, president, opened the meet,
ing with a prayer for His Holi-
ness Pope John XXIIl. Min-
utes were read by the secre-
tary, Miss Dorothy Dillon, An
invitation to the CWL rectory
tea in .Seaforth was read. Mrs.
Clarence Looby gave the treas-
urer's report.
An interesting account of the
convention in Windsor was giv-
en by Mrs. Tom Butters. Mrs.
Louis Bruxer moved the meet-
ing .be adjourned. A mystery
prize Was won by Mrs. Harold
Meagher. -
Turner's UCW
Turner's Church UCW met in
the church basement Thursday
evening with 12 members pres-
ent. The roll call was answer-
ed by giving the name of the
minister who had performed
your marriage service. The de-
votions were taken by Mrs. Ed.
Layton, and the topic on "Stew-
ardship" given by Mrs. (Rev.)
Grant Mills.
After a short business meet-
ing lunch was served by the
hostess, Mrs. Howard Johns, as-
sisted by Mrs. Gregor McGre-
gor.
UNIT ONE, UCW
Unit One of UCW of North-
side United Church met in the
church parlor for a pot -luck
supper on Tuesday of last week.
Mrs. Campbell, the president,
conducted the business or the
meeting. The worship was bas-
ed on chapter eight of "The
Word and the Way." Mr. John
Talbot played his tape record-
ing of the Easter cantat pre-
sented by Northside choir.

. UCW Meeting
St. Andrew's UCW held their
June meeting on Tuesday eve-
ning. Mrs. Harold Jones chair-
ed the meeting with Mrs. June
Cooper taking the scripture
reading, and Mrs. Robert Elgie,
the study topic from "Asia's
Rim." Plans were discussed for
the ham and strawberry supper
to be held in the church on
July 3.
A presentation of a hassock
and cushion to Mrs. H. John-
son was made by Mrs. Emer-
son Kyle, while Mrs. R. Mc-
Gregor read the address. Twen-
ty ladies were present. Hostess-
es were Mrs. E. Kyle and Mrs.
Norman Dickert.
A chicken barbecue was held
Saturday evening on the lawn
at the home of Mr. and Mrs.
Elzar Mousseau, sponsored by
the South Huron Youth for
Christ, with about 200 being
present. Rev. Smith of Strat-
ford church was the guest
speaker, and Mr. Alvin Cud -
more, of Exeter, leader of the
groups, represented. A- short
program followed, of which two
accordionists and a trio from
Stratford favored with a few
numbers.
Misses Sandra and Shirley
Reid, who have completed a
year at Ottawa Teachers' Col-
lege, have accepted teaching
positions with the Scarborough
Board of Education. They leave
this week to spend the summer
at Bigwin Inn, Muskoka.
Mr. and Mrs. Elzar Mousseau
attended decoration day service
Sunday at the cemetery in
Grand Bend.
Mr. and Mrs. Jacog Groene-
berg and family of St. Thomas
and her mother, Mrs. De Rid-
der, the latter's mother who
has just arrived from Holland,
visited Friday with Mr. and
Mrs. Harry Van Wieren and
family.
Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Lavery
and son have moved into their
home in Kippen.

Sunday with their son and

HOST OF 'FOLK 'SONG PROGRAM—Bill langstroth, who
produces the CBC -TV program, Don Messer's Jubilee, is also
a performer in his �'n right. He is seen this summer in the
folk song program, Singalong Jubilee, which comes from the
Halifax studios of the CBC. Langstroth sings and performs on
his favorite instrument, the five -string banjo. On the same
proram are folk -singer Jim Bennet, guitarist Fred McKenna,
a folksinging trio The Townsmen, and the Jubilee Singers
chorus.
DISTRICT FUNERALS
GEORGE BAIER
George Baler, of lot 35, con.
8, Logan Township, died Sunday
at the Thamer -Nursing Home,
Seaforth. He was 94 years old.
Born on Jan. 8, 1869, he had
lived in Logan Township all his
life. He married the former
Caroline Schultz on November
5, 1896, who survives.
Besides his wife he is surviv-
ed by three sons: Edward, Hib-
bert Township; Norman and Al-
bert, of Norwich; one daughter,
Mrs. William (Martha) Rad-
sherdt, Logan Township; 15
grandchildren, 25 great-grand-
children, and one great -great-
grandchild.
The body was at the Heath -
Leslie funeral home, Mitchell,
until Wednesday at noon when
removal was made to First
Lutheran Church, Logan Town-
ship, for funeral service at 2
p.m. Rev. Gerald Scholz officiat-
ed, with burial following in the
adjoining church cemetery.
PATRICK FERGUS RYAN
The death of Patrick Fergus
Ryan, Hibbert Township, occur-
red at his home Wednesday,
June 19. He was in his 74th
year.
Mr. Ryan, son of the late
Patrick Ryan and Margaret
Barry, was born in Hibbert,
where he farmed all his life.
In 1920 he was married in De-
troit to Mary Kathleen Mc-
Aleer. He was a member of
Mr. and Mrs. Lambertes Wor-
stenbosh and baby daughter,
Mitchell; Miss Joyce Priestap,
Guelph; Mr. Foster, Toronto;
Mr: and Mrs. Bert Thomson
and family and Mr. A. Petrie,
Hensall.
Mr. Oswald Brown, Q.C., and
Mrs. Brown of Detroit and Mrs.
Marguerite Ulch' of Windsor vis-
ited Sunday with Mr. and Mrs.
Norman Long.
St. Patrick's Church, Dublin,
and the Holy Name Society.

vived by five daughters: Mary
Margaret of Kitchener, Teresa
and Alice of London, Mrs. E.
(Geraldine) Wilson of Seaforth

Mrs. Thomas (Annie) Burns of

John of Logan.
The body is resting at his
late residence south of Dublin
on the county road from 8 p.m. -
Wednesday, until Saturday
morning at 9:30.
Rev. Remi Durand will cele-
brate Requim High Mass at St.
Patrick's Church. Burial will
take place in St. Patrick's ceme-
tery, Dublin. W. J. Cleary fun-
eral home is in charge of ar-
rangements.

the season on Wednesday, with

BRUCEFIELD
The UCW of Brucefield held
their annual visitors' day June
4 with many visitors present.
Ladies of Kippen, Turners,
Brucefield a n d Egmondville
were present. The meeting op-
ened with a call to worship by
Mrs. Gordon Elliott.
The topic on "The Talents of
Women," was well delivered by
Mrs. J. Boughan. There was a
closing hymn for the . worship.
In the absence of the presi-
dent, Mrs. W. Broadfoot wel-
comed all the ladies. A thank -
you was heard from Mrs. Snell-
ing for cards received in the
hospital. The ladies were re-
minded of their regular picnic
in July at Scott's cottage, Bay-
field; also the strawberry sup-
per at the church on June 27.
The offering was received by
Mrs. Stuart Wilson and Mrs.
Victor Hargreaves. A reading
was given by Mrs. E. Boyes, Eg-
mondville;, a solo by Miss M.
Crich, Turner's, accompanied
by Mrs. W. Rogerson on the
piano. A quartette of Mrs. H.
Jones, Mrs. E. Kyle, Mrs. T.
Reid and Mrs. H. Bennindyke,
accompanied by Mrs. Ross
Broadfoot, from Kippen, per-
formed. The ladies enjoyed an
instrumental by Mrs. J. Mur-
doch on the organ, Mrs. Mac
Wilson on the violin, and Mrs,
W. McBeih on the piano,
Mrs. W. Broadfoot introduc-
ed the guest speaker, Mrs. H.
Johnson, Brucefield, who gave
an inspiring message to the
ladies in her very capable man-
ner. Mrs. Harvey Taylor thank-
ed the speaker, -and the presi-
dent closed the meeting with
prayer. The ladies retired to
the basement for a social half-
hour, with Unit• Four serving
lunch.
