Goderich outlasted Seaforth
Intermediates 15 to 10 in. a
high scoring exhibition contest
at Lions Park Thursday night.
Both hurlers had trouble con-
trolling the ball, as dampness
hampered their effectiveness.
As a result the batters had a
good night at the plater
Seaforth batters tagged Gode-
rich, pitcher, John Bisset, for
11 hits. Goderich managed nine
hits, but put them together for
a nine -run barrage in the fifth
and six runs in the eighth.
Three Goderich batters reach-
ed first when hit by wild pitch-
es.
Seaforth opened the scoring
in the third frame when Cliff
Petrie batted in Bob Whitelaw.
In the fourth, the local team
added four runs as Doug Row-
cliffe and Carmen Vint sliced
singles for the RBI's.
Goderich burst into the lead
in the fifth with nine runs. Sea -
forth pulled up to within One
run in the seventh, but the visix
tors put the contest on ice with
six runs in the eighth.

The St. James' Catholic Wo-
men's League held their meet-
ing in the school auditorium on
Tuesday. The president, Mrs.
James Devereaux, opened the
meeting with a prayer for Pope
John XXIII.
Two new members were wel-
comed to the executive: Mrs.
J. Aubin as third vice-president,
and Mrs.. J. ,,Kelly as treasurer.
Before leaving Seaforth, Mrs.
A. McCourt was presented with
a cup and saucer in apprecia-
tion of her work as treasurer.
Parish visitors for June will
be Mrs. J. L. Slattery and Mrs.
•J. McConnell. All members
were asked to visit during the
summer months. Mrs. C. Ma-
lone will take care of the altar
in July, and Mrs. J. McConnell
in August.
First Communion certificates
have been obtained and will be
framed and given to the chil-
dren on June 16.
It was decided to have a
Communion breakfast for Grade
VIII graduates and to provide
crests and treat for the chil-
dren on ,their field day. The
ladies agreed to cater to a
Communion breakfast for the
Knights of Columbus on the
last

Wed 35 Years
Mr. and Mrs. Wilmer Reid of
Varna celebrated their 35th
wedding anniversary on Satur-
day, when their daughter and
son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph
Stephenson; entertained therm
to a surprise • dinner party at
the Dominion Hotel, Zurich.
A social evening was held
after the dinner party at the
home of Mr. and Mrs. Stephen-
son. Present at the celebration
were Mrs. Reid's 90 -year-old
father, Mr. Edward Boyce, of
Clinton, and their grandchil-
dren, Debora, Blaine and Billy
Stephenson.

died in South Huron Hospital,
Exeter, on Sunday, June 2, hav-

children, and two great grand-
children.
Funeral services were con-
ducted by Rev. Hugh Wilson on
Tuesday, June 4, at the Hopper -
Hockey funeral home, Exeter,
with interment in Staffa "eme-
tery. Pallbearers were Leslie
Miller, Thomas Laing, Harvey
Moore, Ed. Alexander, Horton
and John McDougall.

after the dinner party at the
home of Mr. and Mrs. Stephen-
son. Present at the celebration
were Mrs. Reid's 90 -year-old
father, Mr. Edward Boyce, of
Clinton, and their grandchil-
dren, Debora, Blaine and Billy
Stephenson.

ball action Friday night, at Clin-

died in South Huron Hospital,
Exeter, on Sunday, June 2, hav-
ing been a patient about two
weeks.

died. 11 years ago and Mrs.
Thomson has made her home

Mrs. (Elizabeth) Lamport, Us -
borne Township;, John Critz,
Sarnia; . two brothers, George.
Miller, Moose Jaw, Sask.; Wil-
liam Miller, Vancouver, B.C.,
and one sister, Mrs. William
Hunt, Benito, Mari:; four grand-
children, and two great grand-
children.
Funeral services were con-
ducted by Rev. Hugh Wilson on
Tuesday, June 4, at the Hopper -
Hockey funeral home, Exeter,
with interment in Staffa "eme-
tery. Pallbearers were Leslie
Miller, Thomas Laing, Harvey
Moore, Ed. Alexander, Horton
and John McDougall.
