This Week At the *alert!' District High school
(By GISELA DORRANCE)
At last, May Day has come
and gone, Of course, we don't
make a great deal of fuss over
it in Canada, but if we were
English, we would probably be
celebrating the Rites of Spring
—light-footed nymphs Morris•
dancing around a Maypole,
streamers, parties and the
crowning of the Queen of May,
in her white lawn dress and
fur coat . .
Our spring celebrations were
accompanied by Formal Fever
and Cadet Capers. Formal Fev-
er occurs when a group of peo
ple tries to accomplish a year's
work in one week. These con-
ditions result in absolute chaos,
headaches, hurrying, scurrying
arid general confusion. From all
this, like a butterfly emerging
from a cocoon, comes an exquis-
ite fairyland (at the last min-
ute, of course), which fades
away the next morning.
Cadet Capers ere character-
ized by marching feet, dropped
arms, and incessant drill. The
big day is the 24th of May
(won't the Queen be flattered!),
and, by then, a group of un-
willing boys (like Falstaff's 150),
will be transformed into a
smart platoon.
The next 'time you hear from
me I'll be overwhelmed by a
set of May exams. Be it, there -
