Walton Pupils Win at
Brussels {Music Festival
Pupils of Walton, Blyth and
Brussels schools last week com-
peted in the first music festival
to be held in Brussels. Adjudi-
cator was Lloyd McQueen, of
Toronto, assistant supervisor of
music for the Ontario Depart-
ment of Education, who told
contestants the numbers pre-
sented were of high duality.
The festival was opened Tues-
day night by North Huron pub-
lic school inspector, J. H. Kin-
kead, of Godericli, with over
200 parents and friends in the
Brussels school auditorium.
Tuesday night classes were
devoted to rhythm bands and
two and three-part choruses.
There were six of these classes
with a total of 27 entries.
The festival continued all day
Wednesday, concluding Wednes-
day night.
Mrs. William H. King; super-
visor of music for the three
schools, was festival president.

The Staffa UCW held their
monthly meeting, in the church.
Devotions were conducted by
Mrs. Cameron Vivian, assisted
by Mrs. Gerald Agar. Mrs. Ed.
Dearing read the scripture, tak-
en from Psalms 96 and Ephe-
sians 2.f,, A reading was given
by Mrs. )Norval Elliott and Mrs.
Ross S'male and Mrs. Bob Sad-
ler favored with a duet. Mrs.
Arthur Kemp presented an in-
feresting film, Plans were made
for an antique and hobby fair
in May and the annual straw-
berry supper in June. The meet-
ing closed with the Mizpah ben-
ediction, followed by a dainty
lunch served by Mrs. Rhea Jef-
fery and Mrs. Norval Elliott.
WI Executive Meets
The executive of the Staffa
Women's Institute met at the
home of Mrs. Johnny Miller on
Tuesday evening to prepare the
programs .Icor the coming year.
Plans were begun for a bus
trip in July, and a trip to the
Shakespearian Festival in Aug-
ust. It was decided to sponsor
their Chinese girl for another
year.
Discuss Milk Desserts
The sixth meeting of the
Hibbert's Little Lassies' course
on the Milky Way was held at
Mrs. Parsons' home on Satur-
day, Apr. 27, at 1:30 p.m. The
meeting was opened with the
4-H Pledge, followed by the
secretary -treasurer's report. The
roll call, "A supper dish I have:
made," was answered by nine-
teen girls. The leaders discuss-
ed the topic for the meeting,
"Milk Desserts" and lemon
chiffon and blanc mange were
made and sampled by all. Each
girl brought a custard to this
meeting which she had prepar-
ed at home. The next meeting
is May 7ry and each girl is to
bring her recipe file to this
meeting. Anna Scott thanked
Mrs. Parsons.
Quite a number of children
from the local school partici-
pated in the Music Festival in
Mitchell last week. At the clos-
ing concert on Friday evening
Mrs. Ross Smale presented the
Staffa Women's Institute tro-
phy, to the winning triple trio
from RCSS 3, St. Columban,
Hibbert Township.
Mr. Sam Norris returned
home from Victoria Hospital,
London, on Friday.
Mrs. Stan Dow was confined
to bed for a few days at the
home of her daughter, Mrs,
Russell Miller.
Jerry Scott spent the week-
end at the young peoples' camp
at Kintail.
Sunday visitors with Miss
Margaret and James Miller
were Mr. and Mrs. Ross Taylor,
St. Marys;' Mr. and Mrs. Eldrid
McNicol and Bobby, and Mr.
George Miller, London.
Mr, and Mrs. John Temple-
man and family visited Sunday
