Smith, Stratford, spent the past week with her sisters, Mrs. Robert Burchill, Sr., and Mrs. Ada Burchill, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Burchill; also on Thursday Mx'. Richard Robinson visited his sisters and attended h i s nephew's sale. Mr. and Mrs, Robert E. Bur- chill have completed their mov ing to their home in Mitchell. Miss Gloria Ann Pepper spent Sunday at home with her par- ents, Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Pep- per. Misses Bonnie and Betty Ann Barker left Thursday on a trip to Ottawa with Form 12 of Mitchell high school, Mrs. Elmore Kleinfeidt had a very successful sale on Sat- urday. Mr. and Mrs. George Pepper, Mitchell, with Mrs. Mary Mal- colm on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. George Gibb, Stratford, and Mr. and Mrs. Clayton Sheldon, Jim, Glenn, Arleen, Wendy and Twyla, of St. Marys, with Mr. and Mrs. Dalton Malcolm on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Lorne Rogers, Windsor, was home for the • weekend and attended his sis- ter's, Mrs. Elmore Kleinfeldt's sale on Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Ron Gibb, Nan- cy, Cinda and Gayle, Stratford, visited Sunday evening with Mr. and Mrs. Dalton Malcolm. Mr. and Mrs. Warren McDou- gall, Bruce and Grant, of Mit- chell, were dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Dalton Smale Sun- day evening. UCW Holds Meeting Mrs. Lawrence Barker was hostess on 'Wednesday to mem- bers and guests of the UCW of Zion United Church, Scrip- ture was read by Mrs. N. Bush - field; springtime poems were read by Mrs. Earl Barker and Mrs. Lloyd Barker; and a chap- ter from the study book was read by Mrs. Glenn Pepper. Mrs. Lorne Aikens gave a summary and report of the workshop on parliamentary pro- cedure held in Mitchell recent- ly. Mrs. Gordon Aikens read the minutes and correspond ence. Two solos were contri- buted by Wendy Barker. A lunch was served, and a quilt completed during the -after- noon. Plan Attendance At Assembly Mrs. Margaret Messenger and Mrs. Charles Reeves have been elected to attend Rebekah As- sembly sessions at Toronto in June;. as representative and scholar, respectively, represent- ing Edelweiss Rebekah Lodge. Mrs. Keith Sharp and Mrs. Mes- senger are to be official repres- entatives at a district meeting to be held at Brussels Wed- nesday afternoon. Mrs. Marguerite Crawford, of Brussels, D.D.P. for Huron, is to visit here officially on April 22. Members of Brussels lodge have been asked to attend as guests. On May 27, members of Gode- rich Rebekah lodge have been asked to attend and take a part in the meeting, when Mrs. Eula Hyckie, assembly president, vis- its officially. The meeting was notified that Mrs. Amos Osbaldeston, Gode- rich, is the incoming District Deputy President for Huron, and will be installed into office in June. A donation was made to the Navy League of Canada. Mem- bers are asked to bring to the lodge hall during the months of April and May, any school text books, dictionaries or mag- azines suitable for elementary .school children in Nigeria. Miss Mae Smith 'is social con- vener for the next three months and Miss Eleanor Henderson, Mrs. Ed. DOLMAGE - Proprietor FUNERALS JAMES H. UPSHALL James H. Upshall, 59, of RR 3, Kippen, died Sunday, April 7, at Scott Memorial Hospital, Seaforth. A native of Tuckersmith Township, he is survived by his wife, the former Mary Jane McDougall; two daughters, Mrs. Wilmer (Grace) Adkins, Zur- ich; Mrs. Donald (Elaine) Har- burn, Woodstock; four sons, Jack, of Cromarty; Robert, Douglas and Donald, at home; a brother, Robert, of Tucker - smith Township, and a sister, Mrs. Donald McKaig, Seaforth. Funeral service was held Tuesday at G. A. Whitney fun- eral home, Seaforth, with bur- ial in Staffa cemetery. Pallbearers were Chas. Eyre, Ivan Forsyth, John Wood, Ray Consitt, Wilmer Broadfoot and Robert McLachlan. Flowerbear- ers were Bruce McGregor, Robt. Gemmell, Stanley Jackson and Fred Chappel. JOHN J. BURNS John J. Burns, 78, of Sea - forth, died at Huronview, Clin- ton, on Saturday. Mr. Burns lived here for 25 years. He leaves four sons, Gerald J. and Lorne, both of British Columbia; John J., Winnipeg, and Patrick, Ottawa ; three daughters, Mrs. Lucille Wil- liams, Windsor, and Mrs. Es- telle Caldwell and Mrs. Rose Phillips, both of London; and two sisters, Mrs. Charles Strubb, Kitchener, and Mrs. William Flannigan, Dublin. The body rested at the, W. J. Cleary funeral home. Requiem NEWS OF DUBLIN DISCUSS SCHOOL PROBLEMS AT PARENT -TEACHERS' ASSOCIATION The Catholic Parent -Teachers Association meeting was held in St. Patrick's School with a good crowd in attendance. Mrs. Fergus Kelly, Mrs. Henry Fferike; Mrs. James P. Kraus- kopf, George Ducharme and Hugh Benninger formed a pan- el, the discussion being, "Home- work." Questions were asked from the audience, which proved to be an important topics of the school work today. Posters were displayed on the various voeations of life, and Jack Hood Supplies displayed l i b r a r y books, after which the meeting was adjourned, and closed with prayer by Mrs. J. MacLeod. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Ryan, of Kitchener, with Mr. and Mrs. Patrick Ryan. Miss Mary Sullivan, Kitchen- er, with Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Looby. Mrs. Elsie Jordison has re- turned from Ancaster. Mr. and Mrs. Lennie Cronin, High Mass was sung at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. James' Roman Catholic Church, Seaforth. Rev. C. E. Sullivan officiated, with burial following in St. Patrick's cemetery, Dublin. Pallbearers , were Patrick Jor- dan, John Coyne, William Flan- nigan, Lorne Flannigan, Wil- lard Strubb and Michael Doyle. CONSTANCE NEWS OF THE WEEK Mr. Bill Millson practiced teaching in Egmondville last week, and Mr. Gary Jewitt at Bayfield. Mr. and Mrs. Glen Millson, of Beachville, spent one day recently with Mrs. Phoebe Mill - son. Mr. Charles Millson, who has been visiting here, return- ed with them due to' the ser- ious illness of Mrs. Millson. Mr. and Mrs. William Pinning of Clinton, spent Saturday with Mr. and Mrs. George Leitch.ti Mr. William Jewitt was ' in Goderich on Saturday attend- ing the board members' con- ference of the Children's Aid Society, with eight counties represented. The• conference was held in North Street Unit- ed Church, Goderich. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Hornick and family, of Chatham, spent Sunday with Mr. Bazil Hornick. Visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Lorne Lawson on Sunday were: Mr. and Mrs. John Busby, Chat- ham; Mr. and Mrs. Jack David- son and Andrew, of Seaforth, and Mr..and Mrs. Howard Johns of Tuckersmith. Mr. and Mrs. Ross Millson and Cheryl, of Sebringville, spent the weekend at the home of Mrs. Phoebe Millson. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Fowler, of Seaforth, 'spent Mondayat the home of Mrs, Phoebe Mill - son. Due to the large confirmation class for Sunday, April 14th, there will be no Sunday school. Church will be at 3 p.m. as usual. Mr. and Mrs. Aluanley Gar- rett, of Clinton, spent Monday with Miss Pearl McKenzie. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Riley and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Riley at- tended the funeral of the late Ezar Ellis on Sunday at Clin- ton. Mrs. Ken Preszcator, Diana and Nancy spent one day last week with Mr. and Mrs. Laur- ence Hill, of Crediton. Mrs. Ron Preszcator and baby returned home from Scott Mem- orial Hospital, Seaforth, on Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. George 'McIl_ wain and Mary spent Sunday evening with Mr. and Mrs. Geo. MCIlwain, Jr., of Seaforth. Master Jeffery Cook, of Clin- ton, spent the weekend at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ken Preszcator, Hensall Native Receives Grant Mrs. Anne Margaret Evans, of Waterloo, reference libra- rian and lecturer in history at Waterloo Lutheran University, has been' awarded a grant of $2,500 by the Canada Council for research leading to a diser- tation on "A Study of the Lib- eral Government in Ontario, 1871-1896". Mrs. Evans will take a leave of absence from WLU at the end of April to start work on her project. She has been awarded a faculty fellowship to assist her in her work till the end of June,and will use the Canada Council grant to con- tinue research for a year: At that time' Mrs. Evans expects to have all her material gath- ered and will start writing her work. A native of Hensall, the for- mer Miss Margaret MacLaren, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R.' Y. MacLaren, Mrs. Evans was educated at the University of Western Ontario and the Uni- versity of Toronto, and began teaching history at WLU in 1940, holding the post of Dean of Women from 1942 to 1945, when she married the late Pro- fessor Evans, head of the ro- mance languages department at WLU. Mrs. Leo Holland and Billy, of Windsor, with Pat and Joe Maloney. Mrs. Mary Schulman returned to Windsor with them. She has just recently been re- leased from Stratford General Hospital. Mr. Dan O'Rourke has been removed from Stratford Gen- eral Hospital to Victoria Hos- pital, London. Dublin Colleens Meet The third meeting of the Dublin Colleens was held at the home of Mrs. Charles Friend, Monday, April 1. The meeting began with the 4-H Pledge, the roll call and the reports of the secretary and treasurer were read. Mrs. Friend talked about dairy foods and demonstrated the separation of curds and whey. Mrs. John Wills made toasted cheese sandwiches, cheese pie and candy. The meeting closed with lunch. The fourth meeting of the Dublin Colleens was held at the home of Mrs. Jack Wells Monday evening. The meeting opened with the pledge and the reports of the secretary and treasurer were given. Mrs. Friend talked about the record books and the making of different types of cheese and dairy foods. The -making of soft and baked custards was demonstrated by Mrs. Weills and Judy Friend. The group was shown hoW to set 'up in- valid trays. Mrs. Friend made a cheese, pie. The group are to visit the dairy in Seaforth and the cheese factory in Blyth during the Easter holidays. The meeting closed with lunch.
