Plumtree Assistant Secretary News; orf Hensafi Combines Win ,Opening Game Over Strathroy 11,6 teaspoons salt 1%3 cup shortening V2 cup lukewarm water 1 teaspoon granulated sugar 1 envelope fast -rising active dry yeast 1 well -beaten egg 3 cups (about) pre -sifted a11 -purpose flour v4 cup granulated sugar 1 teaspoon ground cinna- mon 3 tablespoons butter or margarine, melted. Scald milk; stir in 14 cup sugar, salt and shortening. Cool to lukewarm. Meantime, measure lukewarm water into a large bowl; stir in 1 teaspoon sugar. Sprinkle with yeast. Let stand 10 minutes. then stir well. Stir in luke- warm milk mixture, well -beaten egg and 11 cups of the flour. Beat until smooth and elastic Stir in sufficient additional flour to make a soft dough— about 11 cups more. Turn out dough on floured board or can vas and knead until smooth and elastic. Place in greased bowl. Grease top. Cover. Let rise in a warm place, free from draft, until doubled in bulk— about 11/4 hours. ' Meantime, combine the re- maining 14 cup sugar and cin- namon. Punch down dough. Turn out on lightly-flourred board or canvas and knead un- til smooth. Divide dough into two equal portions. Roll out one portion into a rectangle 12 x 8 inches. Brush with half of the melted butter or margarine and sprinkle with half of the sugar cinnamon mixture. Be- ginning at a long edge, roll up jelly -roll fashion. Cut roll into eight slices about 11,4 inches thick. Using handle of wooden spoon placed parallel with the cut edges, press down through each roll- as far as possible. Repeat with second portion of dough. -Arrange the rolls, well apart, on a greased cookie sheet. Grease tops. Cover. Let rise in a warm place, free from draft, until doubled in bulk— about 45 minutes. Bake in . a moderately hot oven (375 deg: F.) 12 to 15 minutes. While still warm, brush tops of rolls with the following Almond Confec- tioners' Icing. Almond Confectioners' Icing 1 cup sifted icing sugar 1/4 teaspoon vanilla 1/4 teaspoon almond ex- tract <, Milk. Combine icing sugar, vanilla and almond extract. Add suf- ficient milk' to make an icing of spreading consistency. Second game in the best -of - seven series will be played in Strathroy Monday night with the third back here next Fri day. The Rockets took the lead when John Morgan scored in the first period. But Bill Shad - dick, the leading scorer in the league over the regular sche- dule with 43 goals, scored at 1:02 of the second period to even the count. Shaddick's linemate, Steve Kyle, scored the winner at 16:45 of the same period. A crowd of 800 fans watched the game. Twelve penaltieF were called with the Rockets getting nine. The Kinette Club of Hensall met on March 13 at the home of Mrs. William Mickle. Vice president Mrs. John Deitz chair ed the meeting, which had a 100 per cent attendance. On behalf of the club, Mrs. John Drysdale welcomed Mrs. Ron Wareing as a new member. Mrs. Harold Knight, convener of Ways and Means, reported plans were un- derway for the May rummage sale. Further plans were also discussed for the shut-in visits in April by Mrs. Bob Baker, Jr. Complete 13 Quilts For Sale Chiselhurst United Church Women met Tuesday afternoon for their March meeting with Mrs. Percy Harris, president, in the chair. The roll call was an- swered by 1.7 . members. Mrs. Clarence Coleman was in charge of the worship. It was decided to place Easter Lilies in the church for Easter and purchase more dishes to add to their tet. Mrs. Harris reviewed a chap- ter of the study book, "The Rin} of Asia". It was disclosed that the group has completed 13 quilts, one for sale, six custom quilts and three large and three crib quilts for the bale for over seas relief. Lunch was served and hostess- es were Mrs. Ross Sararas and Mrs. R. Taylor. Study Church In Korea The Senior Women's Mission- ary Society of Carmel Presby- terian .Church met Thursday af- ternoon' for their March meet- ing, presided over by president, Mrs. Earl Campbell. Devotions were in charge of Mrs. Malcolm Dougall and Mrs. Sam Dougall, assisted by Mrs. Glenn Bell and Mrs. Percy Campbell. The study on the church and its works in Korea was taken by Mrs. Mal- colm Dougall. At a brief meeting of the Ladie's Aid, it was decided to have a lunch booth at Moir's sale. The' bake sale and tea at the church on Saturday was very successful. Mr. Asa Deeves had the mis- fortune to fracture his right leg Friday evening while on his way to attend the hockey game between Strathroy and Hensall- Zurich Combines at the arena. He was crossing the railway tracks when he fell. He was taken to South Huron Hospital. Exeter, where his leg was.plac- ed in a cast. He is resting com- fortably at his home and will be laid up for two months. Mrs. Charles Eckel is a pa- tient at South Huron, Hospital, Exeter, Mr. Robert McKenzie is a pa- tient in South Huron Hospital, Exeter. On Sunday, Mrs and Mrs. Al- bert Shirray attended the Bac- calaureate service for the gra- duation class at Ridgetown Ag- ricultural School, where their son, Douglas, is a senior stu- dent. Dr. W. A. Young, padre of Ontario Agricultural College, Guelph, was the speaker. A turkey dinner was served to the parents in Steckley Hall. ' Mr. and Mrs. V. M. Pyette and family, of Yarker, have taken up residence in Hensall. Mrs. Eva Parker returned home from Clinton Public Hos- pital on Saturday, where she has been a patient. Mr. and Mrs. Orville Jones attended, the funeral of Mrs. Jones' aunt, the Iate Mrs. An- son Ruttan, of Gorrie.. Mrs. William Forrest as a pa- tient in St. J`oseph's Hospital, London, where she will under- go surgery. Mr. Gordon Munn is ,-a 'pa- tient in South Huron Hospital, Exeter.
