PUZZLE NO. 748
AIRMAN LIVED ' IN SEAFORTH
TRAFFIC VICTIM IN FRANCE
In the region of St-Avold, on
National Route No. 3, which
was snow-covered and slippery,
the glazed road claimed a life,
a Canadaian sergeant stationed
at Metz.
It was approximately 13:45,
when, in the' neighborhood
known as "Three Houses,” the
car driven by 32 -year-old Serge-
ant George Courtemanche, trav-
elling at a high rate of speed
according to certain eyewitness-
es, made a sudden swerve to the
left, went off the road, and
crashed against a tree,
In spite of the prompt assist-
ance rendered him, the airman'
was dead when he was remov-
ed from his vehicle which. was
completely wrecked.
Prior to his departure for
Music -Minded "Husband: One

This Week At the Seaforth District High School
(By GISELA DORRANCE)
Our senior girls' basketball
has brought home one more tro-
phy. Hooray! They took the
home -and -home series with Lis
towel 58-53 after some hard
battling. In the first half, on
the home floor, they racked up
a respectable margin of 15
points with a score of 36-21.
This was accomplished partly
by Margaret Ann Stapleton 15,
Freda Hassan 11, Lois Tyndall
6, Joan Teall 4, and partly by
the rest of the team. (Notice
how I keep hammering away at
the rest of the team? I want
you to think of them too.) The
girls had to fight hard on the
Listowel floor, trailing 32-22,
but were saved by the margin
from the other game. Scorers
here were Freda Hassan 10,
Joan Teall 7, Lois Tyndall 4, and
Geraldine Dennis 1. Special
mention goes to Diane Reuer-
man for consistently good
guarding; Joan Teall, for keep-
ing the ball moving around, and
Freda Hassan for a well -played
and dependable game.
Now you had better be proud
of your team and Miss Slavin.
Listowel has been undefeated
for two years (28 games) and is
quite a bit bigger than Seaforth

I had better tell you about
our school queen and leader,
elected by the students from
candidates screened by academ-
ic standing to represent the
school in the London Leaders'
Club and Queen's Club. This in-
volves getting their picture in
the daily paper, along with in-
formation about them and short
ess,ays written by them, • a day
in London, and general admira-
tion from everyone. Since all
the serious information will be
in the paper anyway, I'll just
give you a few details just to
fixthem in your mind.
Jeanne .Melady is a newcomer
to SDHS this year, but, once she
got over the initial shock, she
fitted in perfectly. This viva-
cious queen (-she may as well
use the title while she has it)
has beauty and brains. Among
other things, she possesses a
remarkable sense of direction
and a horse. She is guarded and
kept out of mischief by her
brother. (Is that good or bad,
Jeanne?) -
Louis Devereaux is a person-
able young man who under -
trigonometry. He went through
a harrowing experience last
year—he was one of three boys
in a class of girls. Now, fel-
lows, you may think that that
was heaven, but anyone who
has gone, through a similar ex-
perience feels that the fair sex
is. a great deal like honey,
"whereof a little more than a
little is by much too m1)ch."
As a result of last year, he' has
become ,able to stand almost
anything, and has acquired a
firm determination to be a bach-
elor.
Be sure to watch for the pic-
tures and cut them out. If
either of them ever get famous•
you can always say to your
grandchildren, "I knew him
(her). And look, here's a pic-
ture from 'way back in '63,
when he (she) was going to
school in Seaforth."
