Huron F of A
(Continued from Page 1)
RR 1, Dublin. indicated there
was no demand on the export
market for Ontario soft wheat
this year. He went on to say
that 'the demand is good with
the smaller millers and that
there are greatly increased
sales to the feed producer.
He announced that the On-
tario Wheat Producers Market-
ing Board has requested the
federal government to assume
the cost of transportation of On-
tario wheat to central feed
grain terminals and the eastern
provinces. This would compen-
sate the loss suffered by the
Ontario feed wheat of 415 cents
per bushel, because of the fed-
eral freight assistance program
on western grain.
The need for a direction pro-
gram on marketing milk, and
the need for subsidies to be
paid on a limited quantity of it,
was pointed out by Lorne Rog-
ers, Goderich, president of the
Huron County Concentrated
Milk. Producers.
"Political reasons apparently
halted the enforcement by the
Ontario government of a qual-
ity program which, would re-
duce production to meat con-
sumption," said Simon Halla-
han, Belgrave, chairman of the
Fluid Milk Producers of Huron
County.
' T h e federal government
should look into the compensa-
tion being paid for t awe toss of
livestock in rail transportation,
said Bob McGregor, Kippen, a
director on the Ontario Beef
Producers Association. .
Alex McGregor, Kippen, first
vice-president of the county fed-
eration, strongly urged the need
for a new•. assessment manel—
particularly in regards to equal-
izing educational costs.
Martin Baan, Walton, a direc-
tor of
the United Dairy-Poul-

try Co-op, said that this group.
sells all the butter it produces;
that it does not sell any to the
government for storage. He sug-
gested that the distinctive color
of butter be retained for the
protection of producer and con-
sumer alike.
' The conference, presided ov-
er by the federation president,
Elmer Ireland, Wingham, com-
menced with a dinner at Hotel
Clinton.
