Due to poor weather and roads on Sunday, the attend- ance at St. Andrew's United Church was only fair. Special music was rendered by the choir. Mrs. Harold Jones and Mrs. Howard Finkbeiner sang a duet, and Mr. Hank Binnendyk sang -a solo. An old woman's son was ser- iously ill and the attending sur- geon advised an operation. But the mother bitterly objected. "I don't- believe in opera- tions," she exclaimed. "Even the Scriptures is agin it. Canadian Navy spent 7,000 days at sea and travelled more than 1,200,000 miles in 1962. Units of the fleet travelled westward as far as Ceylon and east- ward to Ghana, south to the Caribbean and north to Hudson Bay. A highlight was the participat- ing of HMCS Bonaventure in .the rescue of 48 persons who survived the crash of a U.S. aircraft in the Atlantic about 300 miles west of Ireland. The drama of this event is reflected (top, left) in ,the faces of crewmen of the Bonaventure as they take a survivor from a helicopter on the carrier's flight deck to the sick bay. Steaming in stormy weather in the Bay of Biscay (top, right) are Restigouche class destroyer escorts from Halifax. The largest ship ever built in Canada for the RCN is the 22,000 -ton tanker/ supply ship Provider (bottom, left) which made an impressive sight -and splash -when she was launched. To be commissioned in 1963, the Provider will serve as an on -the -spot source of fuel and supplies for ships deployed in operational areas.
