At the Christmas meeting of
Hurondale WI, held in Caven
Presbyterian Church, Exeter, on
Wednesday afternoon, Mr, and
Mrs. Torr{ MacMillan demon-
strated Christmas gift wrap-
ping. Mr. MacMillan showed a
film on the topic and Mrs. Mac-
Millan demonstrated gift wrap-
ping, giving some very helpful
suggestions. Mrs. Bruce Cann
favored with solos and Mrs.;
Robert Maver took the chair
for the program.

gall, Mrs. Riney Keller, Mrs.
Dougall and Mrs. Edwin Miller

Jack Simmons was elected
president for 1963 at the meet-
ing of Hensel'. Branch of the
Canadian Legion, Wednesday
evening, Dec. 5. Other officers
are: first vice-president, Wil-
liam Brown; second vice-presi-
dent, E. R. Davis; sergeant -at -
arms, Ted Roberts; executive,
bl urice Tudor, Jim Taylor,
Wilmer Dalrymple and Wes
Venner; padre, Rev. H. F. Cur-
rie.

ing of the Hensall Legion La-
dies' Auxiliary, Tuesday even-
ing, Dec. 4;
President, Mrs. Wm. Smale;

on; secretary, Mrs. E. R. Davis;
treasurer, Mrs. Byran Kyle;
Sergeant -at -arms, Mrs. Harry

Mrs. Howard Smale- won the
mystery prize, and Mrs. Maude
Redden won the guessing com-
petition. Bingo was played and
an exchange of gifts was made
between members during lunch.
Decorations of the Legion
Hall were in Christmas theme
with walls accented, with red
pointsettas and evergreens, en-
hanced with a lovely illuminat-'
ed Christmas tree. ,

Elects Officers
At the Christmas meeting of
Units 4 and 5 of Hensall Unit-
ed Church Women, held in the
church schoolroom Thursday
afternoon, the following officers
were elected for 1963'
President, Mrs. James.. McAl-
lister; vice-president, Mrs, Geo.
Armstrong; recording ,secretary,
Mrs. R. M. Peck; treasurer, Mrs.
W. B. Cross; assistant; --Mrs. N.
E. Cook; pianist, Mrs. T. Sher-
ritt. 'Mrs. E. T. Rowe conduct-
ed the election. Forty attend-
ed -.the meeting, which was pre-
sided over by Mrs. W. B. Cross,
with the devotional taken by
Miss M. Elliss, Mrs. Archie Row-
cliffe and Mrs. George Arm-
strong.
Mrs. H. F. Currie gave • an
inspiring talk on "The ' Nativ-
ity." Mrs.. Clare McBride gave
delightful trumpet solos, ac-
companied by Miss Greta Lam-
mie. The offering was taken up
by Mrs. Laird Mickle and Mrs.
Stanley Mitchell, Mrs. Cross
expressed thanks to the ladies
for their co-operation to Mrs.
Cook and herself during their
leadership.
Following singing of the dos-
ing hymn, a Christmas lunch-
eon was served by Group 4.

Christmas Motif
For Amber Meet
The Christmas meeting of
Amber Rebekah Lodge was
held last Wednesday, the lodge
room being lovely in Christmas
emblems. Noble Grand Mrs.
Hugh McEwen presided. Enter-
tainmnt consisted of Christmas
carols, readings by Mrs. A. W.
•Shirray and Mrs. Harold Park-
er, and vocal solo, Mrs. William
Brown. Members were guests of
Brussels Lodge at their Christ-
mas party on Tuesday, Dec. 11.
Members exchanged gifts, and
luncheon was served.
Winners in the Christmas
cake draw, sponsored by the
Hensall Kinette Club, 'were Er-
vin Reichert, Clinton,' and Jill
McLellan, Kippen. The draw
took place Saturday night in
Irwin's store and the tickets
drawn by Mrs. Inez • HcEwen.
Guide Ceremony
Enrolls Eleven
The Girl Guides enrolment
was held in Hensall United
Church Tuesday evening, Dec.
4th, with parents as special
guests, when 11 Tenderfoots
were enrolled as Canadian Girl
Guides by District Commission-
er Mrs. Thomas Lavender: Lin-
da Keys, Patricia Parke, Susan
Jinks, Karen Mills, Betty Cam-
eron, • Linda Lowery, Cheryl
Mousseau, Sharon Lavery, Lin-
da Fuss, Carolyn Cook and Jan-
ice Bonthron.
Proficiency badges were pre-
sented to the following by Cap-
tain Mrs. Jim Hyde: Pioneer,
The Cook, Child Care, Skaters
and Hostess badges, Lois Sim-
mons; second class skaters,
child welfare, Joan Simmons;
second class, skaters, Wendy
Moir; second class, skaters,
child care, Crissie Cameron;
child care, Pauline Bell; skat-
ers, Mareia Little.
The Guides held their regu-
lar meeting. The meeting was
planned and Iunch served .by
four girls: Joan Simmons, Wen-
dy Moir, Pauline Bell and Chris-
sie Cameron, who are working
for their hostess badges.
FUNERALS
JOHN HAZELWOOD
Funeral services for the late
John Hazelwood were held Fri-
day at 2 p.m. from the Bonthron
Funeral Chapel, Hensall, con-
ducted by Rev. William Weir,
of Stratford, a former minister
of Carmel Church. He was as-
sisted by Rev. Ross MacDonald.
Burial was in Exeter cemetery.
Mr. Hazelwood passed away
Tuesday evening at the Queens-
way Nursing Home, where he
had been a patient for six years.
In his 83rd year, he was born
in the Hensall area, and is sur-
vived by one sister, Miss Isa-
bella Hazelwood, of Stratford.
His wife died a few years ago.

SANTA'S COMING FREE -MOVIES
FOR HENSALL DISTRICT CHILDREN
Santa Claus will visit Hensall
this Saturday, Dee. 15, at 2:00
p.m., and will distribute treats
to the children of Hensall and
district. Free movies and car-
toons will be shown in the
Town Hall, sponsored by Hen-
sall businessmen.
Mrs. Harold Elliott, of Hen -
sail, was the winner of $50.00
in a draw at Exeter last Satur-
day, sponsored by Exeter busi-
nessmen.
Mr. William Boa, who resides
on Highway 4 south of Hensel',
was taken by ambulance Tues-
day night to South Huron Hos-
pital following a stroke.
Mr. Charles Wilson is a pa-
tient in St. Joseph's Hospital,
London, where he underwent
surgery.
Sandy Ingram, 5, son of Mr.
and •Mrs. Ray Ingram, is re-
cuperating from a fractured leg
received in a fall at the barn.

United Church for the shut-ins

Strathroy 7-3 Friday night in a
Shamrock Junior hockey league
game here. The victory placed
the Combines in first place, one
point ahead of Strathroy. Grey.
Chapman scored three goals for

had two. Bill Shaddick and Bob
Johnson scored the others. Bob
Bartholomew, Dave Robinson
and Bill Brady scored for
Strathroy.
Over 200 packages of peanuts
and mixed nuts were sold by
Hensall Kinsmen in their can-
vass of the village last Thurs-
day night. The Kinsmen ap-
preciate the co-operation of the
residents, • who so kindly re-

Mr. J. E. McEwen is a pa-
tient in Victoria Hospital, Lon-
don, where he will undergo eye
surgery on Thursday of this
week..
Mr. Wilbert Dilling under-
went eye surgery at Victoria
Hospital, London, Tuesday of
last week.
