Cameron began read- ing the national news in 1944 -at that time, on radio. He was born in Moose. Jaw, Sask., 47 years ago and worked briefly as a teacher before starting with his local station CHAR in 1939. His goal was to do national newscasts and one month after joining the CBC in Toronto in 1944, he achieved it. OFFICE SUPPLIES Phone 141 - Seaforth Complete Members from 22 4-11 Clubs across Huron were in Exeter Friday night for the 15th an- nual Huron County 411 Achieve- ment Night. ° This year set a record in the history of 4-11 club work in the county, with a 93 per cent com- pletlo4 of projects. More than $2,308 in cash prizes was pre- sented to the boys and girls, along with trophies and other awards. Harold Hern, RR 1, Granton, president of the 4-H Club Lead- ers Association, chaired the pro- gram, where Larry Snider, Exeter, chairman of the high school board, extended a wel- cbme. Greetings from the Ontario Department of Agriculture were brought from the county agricultural representative, D. H. Miles,. Clinton. For D. G. Grieve, who has served as associate agricultural representative in Huron County since June, 1959, the event was not only the climax to a sucess- ful program which he directed, but a severing of connectipn. On Dec. 1, he assumed the position of assistant professor in the animal husbandry division, Fed- erated Colleges, OAC, Guelph. ", Top Award Murray Scott, 20, son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Scott, RR 1, Belgrave, captured the top Cward of the year, the Elston ardiff Citizenship Trophy. The trophy was awarded for not on- ly outstanding 4-H contribu- tion, but also for home and community activities. For his outstanding achievement in 4-11 grain clubs, the winner receiv- ed the William A. Schmid, Luck - now trophy, and the John A. Anstett, Clinton wrist watch, for bolding the highest score in the county's 4-H Beef Calf Clubs. The C. S. MacNaughton Tro- phy, donated by Highways Min- ster MacNaughton, of Exeter, went to Miss Iris Marshall, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ross Marshall, RR 1, Kirkton, for,ob- taining the highest 4-H score in the county, that of 947 out of a possible 1,000. Jim Harding, 13, of 1111 1, Gorrie, who held the highest score as a first-year 4-11 club member, was presented with the Warden's Novice Trophy by Huron County Warden, .George McCutcheon, Brussels. Grant Hodgins, Granton, cap- tured two new awards, the To- ronto - Dominion Bank award (Seaforth branch) for being the champion all-round showman, and the British Mortgage award (Goderich branch) for t h e champion all-round beef show- man, a title which he also held in 1961. Kenneth Papple, RR 5, Sea - forth, for holding the highest score in the 4-11 Dairy Calf Clubs, earned the Canadian Im- perial Bank of Commerce (Blyth -Auburn branches) wrist watch. He also won the Marvin Howe trophy, donated by Mr. Howe, Arthur (MP for Welling- ton -Huron) for obtaining • the highest score in the 4-11 Swine Clubs. Ronald „Howatt, RR 1, Bel - grave, took home the A. Y. Mc- Lean trophy, presented by The Huron Expositor for champion 4-H dairy showmanship. His brother, Ivan Howatt, received the Huron County Hog Produc- ers award, presented this year for the first time, for champion 4-11 swine showmanship. Miss Barbara Turnbull, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Turnbull, RR 2, Brussels, won the Ross Savauge trophy, donated by Mr. Savauge, Seaforth Jeweller, for her county champion 4-H gilt. Bob Eedy, Dungannon, for his county champion Hereford calf, received the Huron Hereford Association trophy. Charles Bray, RR 3, Brussels, won the R. T. Bolton. (RR 1, Dublin) Trophy, for the champion 4-H g rain exhibit, Other Awards 4-11 Award Certificates, award- ed for satisfactory completion with at least 75 per cent stand- ing, went to Kenneth Dapple, RR 5, Seaforth, for having com- pleted his 1.8th prof7@ qt n 4-11 Club program. Twele project certificates were presented to Charles Bray, RR 5, Seaforth; six -project certificates: K e n Ankenman, RR 1, Gowanstown; Bruce Betties, RR 2, Bayfield; Lila Black, RR 1, Belgrave; Bill Boyd, RR 1, Wroxeter; Douglas Howatt, RR 1, Belgrave; Bill Jeffray, RR 2, Wingham; Amy Stewart, RR 5, Seaforth; Keith Ward, RR 1, Ethel; John Wight - man, RR 1, Belgrave, and Phyl- lis Wilson, RR 1, Fordwich. For their voluntary service for 10 or more years, 4-H Lead- ers awards were presented to: Howard McCullough, RR 1, God- erich; James. R.
