Pupils moved into the new building Wednesday afternoon when a short ceremony was held and SDHS Principal, L. P. Plumsteel, spoke. Serving ratepayers in Grey School Area No. 2, comprising the community of which Wal- ton is the centre, the new school began operations with 90 pupils. Six additional pupils ..are expected at the beginning of the winter term when school resumes after Christmas. The staff includes Mrs. Doreen McCreath, Mrs. Mar- garet Robertson and Mrs. Marie Toll. The music instructor is Mrs. Joanne King. Construction of the new building was 'carried out under - the direction of the school board, of which Wilfred Short. reed is chairman. Members are John W. Bryans, Donald Mc- Donald, Stewart Humphries and William Coutts. The -secretary is Alvin McDonald. The. four -room school was built by Frank Van Bussel & Sons, of Lucan, for a contract price of $74,416. Equipment and other items not covered in the contract will bring the total cost to about $84,000. Architects were Dunlau, War- dell, Matsui & Aitken, of Is- lington, -Ont. Pupils are transported to the school each day by bus opera- tors -Russell Marks and Nelson Marks. Their contract of $5,000 covers about 70 miles of travel each school day. Plan Ceremony The1opening ceremonies next Wednesday will include an ad- dress by Rev. G. Lockhart Roy- al, of Goderich. The building will be dedicated by Rev. A. Higginbotham, of Walton. The public is invited to the cere- monies. WORK on the new Grey Township Area Nd. 2 School at Walton was rushed to completion in readiness for the open- ing next Wednesday. Here a bul,ldoz•er levels the school grounds as contractors took advantage of fine weather. Be- low is a plan showing the arrangement of classrooms in the new school. The plan permits two classrooms to be com- bined into one large room which can be used as an audi- torium. A good attendance of all mem- bers and 'anyone interested are requested to attend. Any per- son interested `in joining the Library may do so now and get a month's free reading. A new allotment of books " has just been received. • WI Has Meeting The November meeting of °the Walton Women's Institute was held in the Community Hall Wednesday evening,' Nov. 28; with the president, Mrs. Ken McDonald in the chair. The Institute Ode was sung with Mrs. Herb.•Travis at the piano. The Mary Stewart Collect was repeated in unison, followed with the singing of "0 Canada." Mrs. Harvey Craig gave- the sec- retary's report and read a thank -you card and correspond- ence. Summary Day for the group taking the,course, "143 Pounds of Meat," will be held in' Blyth Memorial Hall Thursday after- noon, Dec, 6. A thank -you. note and donation was received from St. ^George's Anglican Guild for the use of the silverware for the bazaar. Mrs.. James Nolan presented Mrs. Wilbur Turnbull and Mrs. Torrance Dundas with gifts on behalf of the ladies taking the meat course. The December meeting will be held December 19, when a 50 -cent gift exchange will be held. The roll will be answer- ed with a donation for the Chil- dren's Aid. The Institute was asked to cater for the opening of the new public school Wednesday evening, Dec. 12. Each member is requested to bring cookies. The executive will be in charge of arrangements. It was decid- ed that the Hall Board and In- stitute hold joint progressive euchre parties this winter. Mrs. Wilbur Turnbull and Mrs. Stewart Huthphries report- ed on the Women's Institute rally held at Bluevale in Oc- tober. The roll call was answer- ed with "a household chore or small town industry now out-of- date." Mrs. Roy Williamson and Mrs. Donald Buchanan were co- conVeners for Canadian Indus- tries. The motto was given by Mrs. Buchanan for which she chose two poems, "Even You and I" and "Tools." Mrs. Roy Williamson showed a film en. titled, "A Century of Harvest."
