ADDRESS Huron Seeks Action On Park in County Huron County Council will petition the Ontario Govern- ment "to investigate the desir- ability of establishing a provin- cial park in Huron County." It adopted a report of the war- den's committee containing this recommendation, which will be forwarded to Hon. Kelso Rob- erts, minister of lands and for- ests, to Hon. Charles S. Mac - Naughton, minister of highways, and to surrounding municipali- ties in • this area. A suggested site is north of Goderich on Highway 21, The., committee, of which Reeve Roy Adair, of Wingham, is chairman, also recommended "that the matter of the war- den's banquet•be discussed and that a study be made, with a report forthcoming early in 1963." The report was discuss- ed in committee of the whole, with the press out, and subse- quently adapted without amend- ment. It was learned that the annual banquet is getting too large for available halls in most centres of the county. With more ex -members, municipal of- ficials and various dignitaries, the county would like to recog- nize, the thing is "snowballing„' as one member expressed it. An austerity plan may be ex- pected. The committee has recom- mended to the county solicitor "that we prefer he does not act on behalf of private individuals or parties at local courts of re- vision, as we feel this might conflict 'with county interests at this time or a later date.” The q unty'solicitor is the firm of Donnelly; Donnelly & Mur- phy, Goderich. As Huron does not have a proper detention home, it is re- commended that • the county authorize the officials to use the detention home in Middlesex at a cost of $2.00 per day while being used, plus necessary trav- elling expense.',' Reeve Walter J. Forbes, of Goderich Township, and Reeve Cliff Dunbar, of Grey, will seek the wardenship of Huron fn 1963. Their declarations came toward the end of a series of .short speeches from all mem- bers at the close of the Novem- ber session. It is desirable," said Mr. Dunbar, "that different Tem - hers compete for the highest office, and I am going to do that in a spirit of friendly com- petition. The result will be just what you make it, and I will go along with it. It de- pends, of course, upon being, returned as reeve of Grey; how- ever, I hope to be back." Reeve Forbes, noting. that the airport committee, of which he is a member, is to be absorbed by the property committee, dropped a remark about "the only alternative is to seek high- er office." "Clarify that," members' de- manded, and Reeve Forbes sig- nified his -candidature. Clarence Hanna, popular reeve of East Wawanosh, an- nounced his retirement and said he "would not be persuaded" to seek re-election. Reeve Harvey Coleman, of Stanley, did not go so far, but said that after eight years in council he told members of township council "if they want- ed to make a move I would not stand in their way." Reeve Scott Fairservice, of Blyth, has had to go to Arizona on account of his daughter's health. County council ordered that a letter be sent him, wish- ing him success in his new en- deavor, and expressing a hope his daughter's health will im- prove. Reeve Alvin Smith, of Turn - berry, noted that no report had been made regarding amplifier service in the council chamber. "This is one day we should have had it," he Said, referring to the many persons invited to speak from beside the warden's chair, some of whom he said could not be heard. Reeve Ralph Jewell, of Col- borne, spoke in favor of a loud speaker system. • The matter was left to the property committee to deter- mine whether or riot arrange- ments should be made' for the January session. Receiving sets for all desks had been consid- ered too expensive. On motion of Reeve Jewell, chairman of the executive com- mittee, the matter of appoint- ing an inspector in accordance with the new Construction Safe- ty Act, was left for the 1963 council. Council adopted Clerk-Treas- turer Berry's finance report, and Reeve Roy Adair, of Wing - ham, chairman of the finance committee, said v"the finances are in good shape, and we will end up with a surplus," ` a TiIE T URQN EXPOSITOR, SEAFQRTa ONT., NOV, .. 2Q, Ille.?•21 Do you know.Mr. L.
