meeting of South Huron Wo-
men's Institute, held at Hensall
Monday afternoon, with Mrs,
Harry Strang, of Hensall, dis-
trict president, in charge of the
meeting,._
Mrs. Earl Heist, of Crediton,
submitted the report of Huron
County Rally, and the Area
Convention report was given by
Mrs. H. Waiper•, of Grand Bend.
Discussion was held for `South
Huron 60th anniversary, to be
held in January 1963, in the
Legion Hall, Exeter, when din-
ner will be served and special
guest speakers will be present.
A gift will be sent to Miss Flor-
ence Eadie, supervisor of Jun-
ior Extensions for the Ontario
Department of Agriculture, To-
ronto, who is retiring,

of, St. Andrew's United Church
hld a meeting at the home
of Mrs. John Sinclair and it
was decided to hold a Sunday
school concert on Dec, 10, at
8:15 p.m.
The Happy Gang surprised
Mr. and , Mrs. Morley Cooper
Friday evening, helping them
celebrate their 35th wedding
anniversary. An enjoyable eve-
ning was spent by playing pro.

Mr. Bob Elgie read an ad-
dress and the couple were pre-

licious lunch was served by Mrs.
Edna Caldwell and Mrs. Carl
McClinchey.
A successful bazaar and tea
were held Saturday afternoon
in St. Andrew's United school
room and basement, proceeds
amounting to $175, Conveners
were: fancy work, Mrs. Archie
Parsons; baking, Mrs. Bert
Faber, Mrs. Eldon Jarrott and
Mrs. John Anderson; fish pond,
Mrs. Robert Elgie; touch and
take, Mrs. Emerson Kyle; pro-
duce•. booth, Mrs. Morley Coop-
er; candy, Mrs. John Sinclair.
The Sunday school received the
proceeds from the candy, to go
towards junior choir gowns; tea
room, Mrs. Lloyd Cooper, Mrs.
William Bell, JVIrs. Tom Reid
and Mrs. H. Hendrick. Mrs,

Santa Claus to Visit
Children of District
At a meeting of the business-
men of Hensall it was decided
to have Santa Claus in Hensall
on Saturday afternoon, Dec. 15,
at 2 o'clock. Santa will' distri-
bute candy, oranges and nuts
to the children, followed with a
free picture show in the Town
Hall. There will also be free
skating in the Hensall Arena
for everyone every Saturday af-
ternoon during December- and
January. The stores in Hensall
will be open every Monday in
December and also Friday and
Saturday evenings; also open
evenings •on Dec. 20, 21, 22 and
24.
The Kinette Club of Hensall
held its annual house-to-house
canvass with Christmas cake
tickets prior to their meeting,
which was held at_ the home of
Mrs. John Baker. President Mrs.
John Heal chaired the meeting.
Mrs. Bob Baker, convener of
the service committee, reported
that 43 shut-ins had been called
on with boxes of fresh fruit and
assorted treats. Many cards of
thanks were read from these
sick and shut-in people. Co -
convener of ways and means,
Mrs. John Deitz and Mrs. Har-
old Knight, reported a very suc-
cessful rummage sale this time.
The .Christmas cakes will be
drawn for December 8th. It
was decided to hold a Christ-
mas party this year for Kin
families. .
President Mrs. Heal presented
Mrs. John Deitz with a baby
spoon on behalf of the club,
for. her new daughter, Nancy.
Past president Mrs. William
Clement displayed the new
Shield, which was purchased to
replace the old, smaller one in
the public school. The names of
their two scholarship students
will appear on it every year.
Mrs. Bob Baker gave a full re-
port on Kin Fall Council, which
was held in Owen Sound Oct.

Cars in Collision
An accident on King Street,
west of the tracks Wednesday
evening, caused damages esti-
mated at $300, with no injuries,
was reported by Chief Constable
E. R. Davis, investigating offi-
cer. A car driyen by Robert
Bernard Higgins, 18, Exeter,
was making a left hand turn to
the Arena, and Edmund Robt.
Saldivar, '19, RR 1, Varna, trav-
elling west, attempted to, pass
the Higgins' vehicle, crashed
into it. Charges are pending.
Mrs. Wes Richardson was the
winner of a $50 bill in a draw
at the IOOF,,,baseball banquet
at the Arena' Wednesday eve-
ning. The draw was sponsored
by the CP & T committee of
the IOOF and Amber Rebekah
Lodges.
Thirty-seven ladies, under the
sponsorship of Kippen East Wo-
men's Institute, spent Wednes-
day, Nov. 14, in Toronto, . shop-
ping, attending- the Royal Win-
ter .Fair in the afternoon and
horse show at night.
Mrs. • Jack Moore, who has
been a patient in Stratford Gen-
eral Hospital, has returned to
her home in Mitchell, where
she is. recuperating from injur-
ies sustained when she fell
from the top of a stepladder
while painting. Mrs. Moore -is
the daughter of Mrs. Harry
Caldwell, of town.
Mrs. Flora Consitt, of Exeter,
formerly of Hensall, has been
admitted as a patient to
Queensway Nursing Home from
South Huron Hospital, Exeter.
Bill Shaddick scored six goals
here Friday night to lead Hen-
sall-Zurich Combines to a '17-3
victory over Belmont in a Sahm-
rock Junior "D" hockey league

A large crowd attended the
auction sale here on' Saturday
of the estate of the late Dr.
James Be1L The sale was suc-
cessful with bidding brisk and
good prices realized on many
articles offered for sale, includ-
ing antiques. The property was
purchased by Ira -Geiger, of
Hensall, for $7,200.
Wayne Smith was the lucky
winner of a $50 bill in a draw
sponsored by the LOBA, Clin-
ton.
The Legion bingo jackpot this
Saturday will be worth $100 in
55 calls, with two door prizes
to be given away.
Mrs. Rheta Charles has re-
turned to her home from Lon-
don.
The homemade candy sale,
conducted by the Hensall Girl
Guides and Brownies on Satur-
day last was very successful
and $58.65 was realized. At
the home 'of Mrs. William C.
Smith Friday evening, eight
mothers met and packaged 304
bags of candy, which,- sold very
quickly in the door-to-door can-
vass of the village.
Mr. Ross MacMillan, of Kit-
chener, received word last
week that he had won a two
weeks' trip to Hawaii with all.
expenses paid for him and his
wife, the former Betty Mickle.
It was announced in Toron-
to recently by the president of
a rubber company that he had
the highest sales percentage
over the previous year for all
dealers across Canada. They
plan to leave by plane the end
of January as scheduled, and
will have a three-day stopover
in Los Angeles.
At the Public Relations -`meet-
ing of Hensall Women's Insti-
tute, held Wednesday evening,
Nov. 14, with President Mrs.
Fred Beer presiding, $10.00 was
voted to the CNIB. Mrs. Beer,
Mrs. Carl Payne, Mrs. Harry
Horton, Mrs. John Skea, Mrs.
James. Bengough and Mrs. R.
M. Peck were appointed a ways
and means committee to raise
money. Mrs. Peck reported on
the Christmas gift purchased
for their adopted child in Aus-
tria. Mrs. Payne reported on
the London Area convention.
Mrs. George Hess took the
chair for an enjoyable pro-
gram, each number being well
presented, to an appreciative
audience: piano solo, Miss Faye
Gesell; vocal trio, "Known On-
ly To Him" and "Because of
Him," by the Misses Faye, Judy
and Susan Oesch, and accordion
solo, Miss Faye Oesch, all of
Zurich; vocal solos, "My Favor-
ite Things," and by special re-
quest, "How Great Thou Art,"
Miss Jean Henderson; accom-
panist, Miss Carol Brown, and

Students Win
Scholarships
Varna and Hensall students
have won Huron County schol-
arships at the University of
Western Ontario,Huron County
Council was advised at its No-
vember session, by Registrar J.
K. Watson. He listed Mark
Bender, Varna, and Miss E.
Jane Horton, of Hensall.
"Mr. Bender," the letter stat-
ed, "is now registered in the
third year Honors Arts, and had
an average of 85 per cent on
his last year's work. Miss Hor-
ton's general average was 75
per cent in her second year
Honors' French and Latin.
"There are three other stu-
dents from Huron County on
the Dean's honors list; John D.
Aberhart, of Goderfch, with an
average of 80 per cent, is now
registered in the fourth year
of the Honors Science program;
William K. Marshall, of Kirkton,
currently in third -year Honors
Arts, had an average of 76 per
cent last year, and John E.
Hall, RR 3, Ailsa Craig, stood
first in his class in Law last
year and is currently in his
third year at Law School.
