TO ,100th BIRTHDAY gELEBRATION
Miss Rachael Spencer, a pa-
tient at Queensway Nursing
Home, Hensall, will celebrate
her 100th birthday Monday,
October 29. Miss Spencer was
born at St. Joseph, near Zurich,
daughter of the late Mr. and
Mrs. David Spencer, where she
spent her early life. Her later
years were spent at Seaforth
and Clinton. She came to the
Queensway Nursing Home here
in January of this year, and is
the only surviving member of
her family. -.
Although her eyesight and
hearing are impaired, she is
able to sit up in her chair most
of the day, enjoys her meals,
and has a very sweet and kind-
ly disposition. She has receiv-
ed a framed certificate from
the Provincial Secretary, and
She will be receiving greetings
from the Provincial Govern-
ment and also from the Queen.
The CGIT of Carmel Presby,
terian Church met at the manse
on Wednesday evening, Oct. 17.
Mrs. Ross MacDonald led in the
worship. Plans were made for
a table at the Ladies' . Aid
bazaar Friday evening, Nov. 2,
of candy, broaches, wastebask-
ets, etc. The girls also hope to

The Leaders' Training School
for South Huron was held in
the Legion Hall, Hensall, on
Tuesday and Wednesday, at-
tended by six leaders and their
six assistants. Miss Ives, from
the Home Economics Depart-
ment in Toronto, conducted the
classes, assisted by Miss Isa-
belle Gilchrist, Huron County
Home Economist. The topic
was "143 Pounds of Meat." Each
leader will go back 'to her insti-
tute and teach a Class. Any

The Fireside Group of First
Presbyterian Church held a
successful turkey buffet dinner
on Wednesday evening: Miss
Carol Brown played music while
the guests waited in the church.
The proceeds will be used ,to
place a new front to the church
organ, which will be completed
in the new -year.
ST. THOMAS' GUILD
The regular meeting of the
Ladies' Guild of St. Thomas'
Church was held at the home
of Mrs. Garnet Stockwell with
20 members present. Li observ-
ance of the Thanksgiving sea-
son, the president, Mrs. R. Spit-
tal, opened the meeting by read-
ing Jim Bishop's Poem of
Thanks, which was followed by
the General Thanksgiving.
The treasurer, Mrs. Earl Dins-
more, is confined to bed for sev-
eral weeks. In her absence, Mrs,
Carm Rowcliffe read the treas-
urer's report. Mrs. A. McCon-
ney read the minutes of the Sep-
tember meeting.
Plans were fin lized for the
rummage sale and two dinners
for the following month. A col-
lection was made for the pud-
dings and cake booth.
Miss Anna Stewart has donat-
ed towels and cloths for the
parish hall kitchen, and the re-
frigerator is installed, The No-
vember meeting will be held in
the parish hall.
The offering was received and
dedicated, and the meeting clos-
