nd dainty lunch,

Mel Tebbutt, the provincial
president, attended this meet-
ing. He gave a very stirring
and thought-provoking address
on farm organization, present
and future. He said that pres-
ent-day farm organizations must
ask themselves if they are
strong enough, and have facili-
ties at hand to do the job ex-
pected of them.
He outlined a few suggestions
for building a good farm or-
ganization: (1) Local officers
must collect memberships, as it
can be done cheaper this way;
(2) Meetings must be attractive;
(3) Adequate finance is neces-
sary to carry on an extensive
research program so that when
meeting the government or
other groups, we can present
our case.
"We must not' be satisfied
with what we have," Mr. Teb-
butt continued, "we must look
ahead and build a solid founda-
tion."
"Communications to farmers
are very bad, Mr. Tebbutt
said. "It is impossible for a
few farm leaders to get all
the knowledge that comes their
way back to the producer.
When business concerns such
as implement manufacturers
are met with higher costs, these
are passed on to the farmer
who has to absorb them, but
hen the farmer is faced with
similar problems he finds he
is not in a position to pass the
added costs on to the consum-
er."
Mr. Tebbutt closed his re•
marks by reminding farmers
that they control their' own
destiny and their future as
farmers depends on their ac-
tions now.
Gordon Hill thanked t h e
speaker. It was decided during
a short business period which
followed, to have an informa-
tion meeting on milk market-
ing at a later date. Robert Tay-
lor and Edgar Rathwell are in
charge.

that the Jbneses are having
trouble keeping up with them-
selves.
As he was drilling a batch of
recruits the sergeant saw that
one of them was marching out
of step. Going to the man as
they marched, he said sarcastic-
ally:
"They're all out of step again
Perkins, except you."
"What?" asked the recruit
innocently.
"I said they're all out of step
except you."
"Well," retorted the recruit,
"you tell 'em. You're in charge."
