Huron Farm News
Harvesting of the white bean
crgp is progressing favorably.
There are reports of some quite
high yielding crops, although
generally the yield per acre is
rather variable.
Silo filling is also in progress,
as well as seeding of winter
wheat. Recent showers should
help the germination of the lat-
ter crop.

ened the 'meeting with a poem,
"Those We Love the Best•" Mrs.

devotional period. An invita-
tion was extended to the group
,by the Presbyterian Barbara
Kirkman to their meeting, to
be held Sept. 25. It was agreed
that a small remembrance be
sent to former members who
have moved away, this gift to
be sent at Christmas . time each
year.

By JACK HOLLAND •
Well, comrades and friends,
here we are starting off on an-
other series of Legion activi-
ties which I hope will prove
interesting and informative.
Due to no regular meetings
in the summer months, this col-
umn took a holiday, but now
we are back in the fall and
winter season I hope 'that we
do have enough news that I
can keep you all posted on the
program of the branch.
Many will recall the summer
picnic for the kiddies, held at
the Lions •Park. This is an
annual affair and the young
ones really get a thrill out of
the program, which is held for
their enjoyment,,, For the first
time, the Branch held.a golf
tournament at Bayfield a cou-
ple of, weeks ago, and from
yours truly I don't know when
a gang of the members enjoy-
ed a day more. One of the high-
lights of the tournament was a
challenge match between A. W.
Sillery and Glenn Smith, and
after 18 holes the baker .won
by one stroke. There is still
controversy over that game.
The whole affair was organized
and run by Gus Boussey, who
did • a splendid job on this in-
itial tryout of Legion golfers.
Recently, on Sept. 13, at the
first regular meeting of the fall
season the branch held an un-
ique ceremony—the dedication
of new Colours. Charlie. Wood
was the man behind all this;
and our hats must go off to
him for the manner in which
it was carried out. Most of us
Legionaires had never seen this
ritual before, and under the
sergeant -at -ants, G. Boussey,
the colourbearers, C. Wood and
G. Hays, marched to the front
of the hall, and with Rev. D.
0. Fry conducting the religious
service, presented the new col-
ours to the Branch president,
Allan Nicholson, so now the
Branch has new colours to -take
on parades and all the activi-
ties the Legion participates in.
I think before long we will
be having bingos now and then.
Do not forget that if any per-
son has the misfortune to need
a • hospital bed, wheel chair,
crutches, etc., give us a call
and you will be looked after.
This is a part of the Legion's
community service, and it's all
free.
In closing, let's not forget
the ones who made all this pos-
sible: "At the going down of
the sun, and in the morning,
we shall remember them,"
