death of Mrs. George Jacob, in

Master John Bennewies, elder

Bennewies, received a broken
leg in an accident' at his par-
ents' farm.
Mrs. Ed. Jarmuth fell at her
home on Sunday and fractured
her hip. She is confined to
Stratford Hospital,
Mrs. Jaek Walker, Debbie and
Karen. of Listowel, with Mr.
and Mrs. Fred Kistler.
Relatives of Mr. and Mrs.
Milton Hillebrecht, of Califor-
nia, gathered in the club room
of the Community Hall here on
Friday evening for a social get-
together.

ARK 40th -ANNIVERSARY
Mr. and Mrs. James G. Carno-
chan, Tuckersmith, observed
their fortieth wedding annivers-
ary on Saturday,' They were
married Sept. 6, 1922, by Capt.
E: W. Edwards, assisted by the
Rev. R. I. Irwin, at the home
of the bride's .parents, in Har-
purhey.
Mrs. Carnochan is the former
Elizabeth A. Wankel, daughter
of the late August Wankel and
Ellen Townsend. Her husband
is the son • of the late James
Carnochan and' Jane Gray. They

In. Two Games
Winthrop defeated. Goderich,
2 to 1 in the second' game .of
the semi-final series, in a game
played at Winthrop on Wednes-
day night of last week.
John Boven and Ken McClure
scored the goals for Winthrop.
Winthrop now awaits the,win-
ners of Centralia RCAF and
Clinton RCAF for the final ser-
ies for the Stephenson trophy.
In a draw, prize winners
were: 1st, Jack Byrant, Walton;

The Senior WMS of First
Presbyterian ! Church met at
the home of Mrs. J. W. Thomp-
son. Miss Belle Campbell, the
president, opened the meeting
by singing Psalm 72. Mrs. 'J
B. Russell, secretary, read the
minutes, and the roll call was
answered by 18 ladies. The
treasurer's report was given by
Mrs. John McGregor, and the
offering was received and dedi-
cated by Miss Campbell,
Mrs. W. E. Butt took the de-
votional part of the meeting,
opening with a hymn, followed
by Scripture reading by Mrs.
Charles MacKay+ Topic for the
day was, "Set Apart, Send
Out," presented by Mrs. .Butt,
assisted by Miss Campbell. A
hymn was sung and Mrs. Butt
closed the meeting with prayer.
A social half-hour was spent,
and Mrs. Butt gave courtesy re-
marks.

their marriage. The land was
cleared in 1832,
Mr. and Mrs. Carnochan have
three sons: James, Winnipeg;
John, Seaforth; Kenneth, Tuck-
ersmith; a daughter, Ruth, died
in 1948. There are also nine
grandsons and one granddaugh-
ter.
The occasion `vas marked by
a dinner, attended by their im-
mediate family, at the Little
Inn, Bayfield, followed by an
"at home" at the home of their
son, John, where their many
friends and neighbors called on
them.

During the day telephone
calls were received from their
son, James, in Winnipeg; and

even terms and were unable to
score any more runs.
Larry Vollett went the route
for Durham. He allowed four
walks and struckout 20. Tom
Dick pitched for Seaforth, al-
lowed four walks, and struck -
out seven.
Despite this setback, the Sea -
forth team has all the confi-
dence in the world that they
can take the Durham team two
straight. They will be on their
own stamping grounds on Sat-
urday, when the second game
will be played. The game will
commence at 2:30 p.m., and the
team feel that With increased.
interest and support from the
home town fans they will even
the ' series, which is _the best
two -of -three games. If you
have never seen a ball game
this year, then you are in for a-
real game Saturday. Give the
team the support it /deserves
and- you won't be disappointed.

John Holland recalled the
contribution Mr. Nesbitt . had
made to the branch, particular-
ly during the 'difficult period
when the new hall was being
planned and constructed. The
presentation was made by Presi-
dent Allan Nicholson.
